Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo and conditioner

I recently reviewed the new range of shampoos from The Body Shop and I explained the reasons why I was very fond of it so when I moved on to the next range of shampoos I was really hoping to find a product that worked and didn't make my hair knotty and unmanageable.

I started using the new Botanical Shine Shampoo and conditioner from Liz Earle, as most of you know I am a fan of her skin care range so was very excited to try her new haircare range.
The Shampoo is actually for all hair types which made me a little wary, I have oily hair and was worried if a shampoo that would work for dry hair would also work for me. It contains Shea butter, vitamin E as well  as apple and orange extracts to add shine, it even includes naturally derived cleansers.

They say 'our shampoo gently cleans without stripping to leave hair soft, shiny and smooth. Contains no sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate.'

I am actually really impressed with this product! It has a fresh smell, leaves my hair clean, soft, shiny and doesn't cause all the knots that The Body Shop Shampoo did. It also lathers really well and a little bit goes a long way.

The conditioner is also great I used the one for oily hair which left my hair knot free, soft but not oily one of the best combination of shampoo and conditioner which I have come across for oily hair.

I would recommend checking out this range of Shampoo and conditioner, each bottle retails for £7.50 for 200ml which isn't too bad at all. I would repurchase this product and can't wait to see if Liz Earle will realise more hair care products!

Monday Ramble

I know its to early to be thinking of snow but I wish I was walking through the snow in Paris!

I think Monday to me is the worse day of the weeks, not to sure why but its always the day I feel the worst but since last weeks update was quite negative I won't bore you with all the jazz.

Today was my first day at uni, well its still freshers week but I went in for an induction. For those of you asking I'm going to start a degree in Marketing with Fashion meaning most my modules are in marketing and fashion will only be a minor. I am very excited to get into the actual course especially the fashion side of it although there are only 15 other people doing this in their first year.

I have very little planned this week apart from trying to get a letter which I need to send to Portugal. I was called to do a army test in Portugal (I'm Portuguese) and then decide if I want to join the army. I think this is such a weird thing for them the Portuguese government to still have in place, I will not be joining the army and also don't want to have to go all the way to Portugal in order to explain this.

I have a few outfits I really want to wear this week but due the the cold I don't think I will get a chance. I strangely don't have to many things on my clothes wish list either apart from a pair of brown boots, I have some Uggs but I hate them!

Must get some new reviews out asap! Got the day of Thursday hopefully I will get a chance then.

Hope you have a great week.

Affordable Beauty- Brushes

When I began to really get in to beauty and makeup at the age of about 15 the one think that I always found was out of my reach were brushes. Everyone on YouTube and on blogs talk about MAC brushes and high end brushes which to be perfectly honest I still can not afford!

However there are a few different brands which I think sell great makeup brushes at more affordable prizes (but some are still not cheap!)

There are some great online stores and although I know that a lot of younger girls are unable to shop online I'm going to start with a few of my favourite online websites.

My top favourite is Sigma Makeup- I love my Sigma brushes and use them every single day, the quality of each brush is great and they have a large range to chose from. They even do travel brushes and different limited edition collections.
ELF make extremely affordable brushes, I would recommend checking out the eye shadow brush in their standard collection and all the other brushes in the Studio line.
Another brand which I have heard good things about but haven't had a chance to try are crown brushes, personally I visit the site quite regularly but there is such a huge selection I always feel slightly lost!

Brushes available in the drugstore
Not to long ago I bought some EcoTool brushes at a great price from Tescos and really like them all apart from the eyeshadow brush. They were all soft and sturdy and are available from Tescos, Boots and Superdrug.

No7 by Boots also has a range of brushes I have only tried the blending and contour brush which I really like to use for blending. My only problem with this brush is that the handle is a little short and tends to get lost in my brush pot, I would have a look at the rest of the range as I have heard great stuff.
One of the ranges I was most exited about this year was the new Revlon brush range, however I have only tried the contour brush which is amazing but I would love to try the others as well. All the Revlon brushes are on sale with £2 off on the Superdrug website.

QVS in Superdrug also has very inexpensive brushes, I find the foundation brush to be okay but some of my other suggestions sell better quality brushes.

If you live in America and Canada I would also recommend Essence of Beauty brushes, I have a couple which I really like and their double ended smokey-wide brush is great for travel. If you live in the UK or Europe and would like to try out their range have a look on ebay I bought one there for a good price.

Try The Body Shop for award winning brushes although a little more expensive they are still cheaper then most high end retailers.

Other brand which also sell brushes but which I have not tried include Gosh, Maxfactor, Ruby & Millie and Models Own.

And if you really want some MAC brushes why not wait until Christmas and buy a holiday brush set, although a little smaller in size they would be a great way to start your collection.

I don't believe that MAC brushes are the be all and end all, although they are of course great for those of you like me that can't afford them I do believe there are cheaper brushes which are still great.

What is your favourite brand of inexpensive brushes?

I let my walls come down

Hello lovelies!
Thought I would just quickly share what I wore on Wednesday when it was warm in London, sadly it is now freezing!
I wore my new Tesco brogues which I really like and were only £10, on this day I also picked up a pair from Primark in Grey which are even nicer!
Top & Skirt- H&M
Scarf from Primark- bought on the day for £3
I did have my usual leather jacket on however it was honestly really warm so I took it of.
I picked up a few new things in Primark including a faux fur gilet which I had looked high and low for, I actually prefer it to some of the other ones I have seen as its quite long and was a bargain!

Have you bought anything nice recently?

Britney Spears Radiance Perfume

I must admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Britney Spears however I do quite like her perfumes. When it comes to celebrity perfumes I have had quite a few and my favourite are probably Britney's and also Jennifer Lopez's. I find they are quite sweet come in bottles that are a little tacky but are quite inexpensive.
At the beginning of this week I received the brand new 9th prefume by Britney Spears called 'Radiance'

I'm not going to lie and say that this is my favourite Britney Spears perfume as it isn't however I think that most people so prefer this to the other ones. I also am not the hugest fan of the bottle although I know a lot of other bloggers love it. This perfume is sweet at first but does turn into to a more musky scent. I also love that it is a Eau de Parfum meaning the scent will last longer which is great!
Would I recommend it? I think its worth having a sniff of this perfume especially if you are after a new one since its quite inexpensive and actually appeals to a lot of people.

This perfume is available now from boots and online at and retails for £28.00 for 50ml.
Whats your favourite celebrity perfume?

Monday Ramble

I nearly forgot to write my Monday update even though I am so proud that I have stuck to something even if it has only been a few weeks.

Today has been a particularly hard day, it started of good but after a big argument with my boyfriend I am not too great. On top of that I also have a cold/flu meaning this hasn’t been a great start to the week.

I start university next Monday which I am quite excited! I can’t wait to actually have some structure in my life; I have been sitting around doing nothing for age!

Last week I said I would try the 356 day challenge but the truth is I failed and have taken very few photos so instead I will leave you with this one which I took earlier today and thought was quite funny...

Sorry it was so short! Will write some beauty posts tomorrow...

Evolve Body Cream & Polish

In last month’s My Pure package I got this little set of Evolve Body Polish and Cream which I was excited to try. Packing wise it is nothing special, I am not crazy about the colour or the shape of the packaging but I guess I can look past that.
The Body polish is my favourite of the two products, they describe say:

Evolve Heavenly Body Polish will gently buff and scrub away dead skin cells until you have, well....a heavenly body!  Coconut shell pieces provide the exfoliating action, whilst nourishing organic coconut oil and shea butter leave skin thoroughly moisturised.’

This product smells divine and does exactly what it says it will, it removes dead skin cells and leaves my skin feeling great however I usually go for a scrub with more beads in order to get a better exfoliation.

The other product is the  Radiance Boost Body Cream which they say

‘will bring dull & tired skin back to life.  Formulated with Brazilian acerola fruit which is rich in radiance boosting Vitamin C, it also contains natural fruit acids to help remove dead skin cells leaving the skin smooth & soft. ‘

This is another great product a little bit goes a long way; it absorbs quickly and leaves my skin soft without leaving it oily. My only problem with this product is that I don’t love the scent although I’m sure it will appeal to some people.

Both products are available from

Have you tried any Evolve products?

Pay attention and listen

I decided that I was going to name my OOTD’s after the song I was listening to, currently I am listening to Tinie Tempah Ft. Swedish House Mafia - Miami 2 Ibiza However finding a line appropriate for a title of a blog post was hard, So sorry the title of this post isn’t great!

This quality of the images are rather bad as my camera doesn’t like dim lighting and as the sun was going down and the flash left me with little white dots all over the image I had to settle for these, hopefully I will be buying a new camera in a couple of weeks, I can’t wait!

It’s funny how you see things differently in photos! I never realised quite how short this skirt actually was but n my defence I have long legs making the skirt appear shorter than it really is (right?).

This is one of the tops I picked up in H&M this week, I wasn’t actually planning to wear this top but the other one wasn’t clean so I had settled for this one. It was only £10 and I think I will wear it loads, you can’t see it in this photo but it is longer at the back then at the front and has 3 pretty buttons down the front. I wore it earlier in the week with black trousers and it looked great, next I think I will wear it with shorts. If you’re a little shorter than me you could even wear it with leggings.

Top £10 H&M
Skirt Pull & Bear
Cardigan H&M

Bracelets from Portugal, Camden market and handmade.
Black large stone ring- Camden Market
Studded ring H&M
Leaf ring Topshop
Other Black ring from Portugal

I love wearing lots of rings! What do you think? Is 5 rings too many? I'm still looking for one more to wear!

Shades of Fall- Revlon Matte Ruby Ribbon

Last week I won the new Revlon matte nail polish in the colour Ruby ribbon in a Grazia magazine giveaway. I had never used a matte nail polish or even a matte top coat so didn’t really know what to expect, in the bottle it appeared to be a beautiful deep red which always appeals to me in the autumn and winter.
The application of this was easy and hard at the same time; I love Revlon nail polishes as the brush is my favourite however applying matte nail polish is far harder than non matte as mistakes are more noticeable, as you can see in the image. It also comes out slightly darker than what it appears to be in the bottle but I actually prefer this colour.

This nail polish also wasn’t quite as matte as I thought it would be although it isn’t glossy it does have shimmer making it far more wearable than a totally matte nail polish. I really love this colour and I am sure I will be wearing it all winter!

What matte nails polishes have you tried?

Lovea Bio l'Argan Regenerating Body Scrub

I love body and face scrubs so I was happy to receive a new body scrub a few weeks ago in my package from ‘My Pure.’ This scrub is by Lovea (a French brand) and is a regenerating body scrub with argan oil so I was very excited to try it.
Packaging wise this isn’t anything fancy at all it comes in a clear squeezy bottle and the product itself doesn’t look to appealing either. However I guess it is practical which is that’s most important thing.

The product smells sweet and nutty which I quite like and isn’t over powering, it has some gritty particles but I wouldn’t say it is too harsh if you have more sensitive skin. The argan oil is great to add moisture to dry skin but doesn’t leave a sticky film over the skin as I have found with various other scrubs.

I would recommend this product and although the packaging isn’t great I would say the product is! I really like it not only does it smell nice but it also leaves my skin feeling great. I would purchase this product and I think it is my favourite body scrub so far.

This is the second Lovea product I have tried and so far I’m quite impressed, is there any other lovea product you would recommend?

What’s your favourite body scrub?

Shades of Fall- Illamasqua Viridian

When I attended the Illamasqua event I left with two products, the first was a nail polish in ‘Viridian’ which is perfect for the autumn and winter. It is a metallic green colour which has a little bit of blue in it. As always I love Illamasqua’s simple but yet interesting packing. The quality of the nail polish is also great, you can achieve a great colour with just one coat but my rule is to always use two coats.
However if you don’t have the money to afford this £13 nail polish there is an alternative, Barry M Racing green although it isn’t quite as blue it is still a great colour very similar to ‘Viridian.’
The next product was precision ink eyeliner in ‘Abyss’ which I will undoubtedly repurchase; the tip is very thin making application of this product really easy and gives you full control. It is also very black, dries quickly and lasts all day. The only small problem is that it isn’t very easy to remove at the end of the day however my Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser does the trick. Favourite eyeliner ever!

What do you think of green nails this autumn?

I swear will end to soon

Sorry about the total mug shots! I can't catch the bottom of my outfit as I can't stand further back and I totally don't know how to pose!
Also I have no idea why there is a strange shadow over me, I think it was because of my window.

Shorts- Topshop

I really wanted to wear shorts and tights today as haven’t worn it in possibly 2 years so I wanted to remind myself what it actually looked like. When I was younger I use to love wearing shorts and tights but now I feel like it’s just a little out of my comfort zone. I quite like these shorts as they are highwaisted meaning no muffin tops.

The first time I wore this top was actually to the Barry M event more than a year ago but since then it has been worn very little, I do like it but it’s not totally my style. I have been struggling with footwear over the last few weeks as the only flats I actually like are boots or brogues which means I need to go buy myself three different brogues in brown, black and grey. Have you seen any nice ones which are too expensive around?

I didn’t wear a jacket as it wasn’t quite necessary and I am sure very soon I will not be able to leave the house without one.

Monday update

Hello Lovelies!

Hope you all had a great weekend even if the weather is getting worse by the day although if I’m perfectly honest I don’t mind the rain and at least I have an excuse to buy new clothes.

Today I went to Camden market and bought quite a few bracelets and a ring all for under £4! What a bargain and I actually really like them. Whilst I was there I popped into H&M which has some great new little bits, I only bought a few tops and a pair of leggings but everything is so inexpensive in there! Just a little tip- H&M sells a great pair of leggings that are a great length and thick (meaning they aren’t see-through) but you have to get the £7.99 leggings instead of the £5.99 (or maybe £6.99)
I spent a lot of my weekend watching The Rachel Zoe Project Season 3, I love her style especially al the faux fur coat and gilets meaning I need to get my hands on some fur ASAP!

I also decided that starting next week I am going to start posting my images from project 365, I borrowed this idea from Lily and Victoria I hadn’t heard of it before but I will explain a little more about it next week when I post my first seven photos on here.

I also decided to explore my wardrobe a bit more and from now I am only going to let myself wear jeans once a week and no more! Hopefully I will also get some outfit of the days up soon, Would you like to see some?

What have you got planned for this week?

Illamasqua Event- The Art Of Darkness

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Illamasqua event which took place this weekend inside their brand new flagship store on Beak Street just of Regent Street.  I was one of the lucky few that got to preview not only their new Art of Darkness collection but also their new store which opens Monday. It is a beautifully decorated store with amazing sparkly floor and a reception desk with what appears to be smashed glass, perfect for the Illamasqua brand!
They describe this collection as
A world in which the lines between the real and the mythical, the past and the future, the living and the dead are never clear’

The collection had some great items I loved the nail polishes, pigments and liquid metals. Also the visuals for this collection are totally breathtaking.

Alex Box the creative director was there putting together this fabulous look, her passion for makeup is really inspiring!

I also left with a few products which I will review over the next week.

Thanks Illamasqua for this great event!
It was so nice meeting all the other bloggers that went too!

The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo for Oily hair

A couple of months ago The Body Shop replaced their existing shampoo range with a new range. The new rainforest shampoo range consisted on no silicones, no sulphates, no colorants and no parabens. It also meets biodegradable standards and minimises the use of non-sustainable packaging resources. So for the planet this product is clearly quite good or at least better than most shampoos as well as also being more natural than many shampoos. But how does the actual shampoo and conditioner work?

I sadly have lifeless hair that is quite oily meaning I use the balance shampoo and conditioner designed for oily hair which contains pracaxi oil, white nettle, seaweed and community trade aloe vera. Both the shampoo and conditioner have quite a nice smell which isn’t over powering and come in a sturdy squeezable bottle however the squeezable bottle isn’t that easy to squeeze especially with wet hands.

The shampoo was great the first few washes, it cleaned my hair well and surprisingly even lathered quite well however after a few washes my hair became extremely knotty and hard to brush even when I used conditioner.

I think this shampoo works quite well but I wouldn’t use it as a daily shampoo instead I would use it every few washes otherwise hair becomes quite dry and unmanageable.

What shampoo would you recommend for oily hair? I’m still yet to find the perfect one.

Boots No7 New 5* UVA Protect & Profect

As many of you know this week saw the release of an exciting new products for Boots No7 and I was kindly invited to attend an event all about this new anti-ageing product!
I must admit that anti-aging products aren’t really my speciality, of course I take care when I am in the sun but as I am only 18 I think it’s a little early to be worrying about lines and wrinkles.

They say:
Experts believe that up to 90% of skin aging is caused by daily exposure to UV rays and 95% of these are made up of UVA, yet new consumer research from No 7 reveals that there is currently widespread lack of understanding amongst women of the role of everyday UVA exposure in premature aging. Amazingly, 78% are unsure of the difference between UVA and UVB and 65% of women only seek out moisturizers with SPF.’

However we rarely worry about UVA and instead only use SPF which protects us from UVB rays, this is where this new product comes in with a great 5 star rating. UVA ages people where they least expect it; in their cars or even on a cold autumn day, UVA unlike UVB is around all year round. Although it is not obvious and doesn’t burn your skin it is constantly aging it!

For those of you that have realised that you have slightly worse wrinkles on the right side of your face (depending where you sit whilst you’re in the car) the reason is probably because that side of your face has been more exposed to UVA rays whilst you have been sitting in your car.

People are exposed to 20% of their annual UV exposure during Spring, 5% in Winter and  12% in autumn meaning that almost 40% of our annual UV exposure happens in the non summer months!

So how do you protect your skin from this evil UVA?
Well Boots No7 has created the first ever day moisturised that has not only SPF but also a 5-star UVA protection plus it is very light and doesn’t feel sticky like most sun creams.

However for those of you with deeper wrinkles there is also an intense range with a day cream, night cream and also an eye cream.

This product is available from Boots now and if you do pick up a jar please let me know what you think!
