Updating Your Makeup Bag for Summer

I’m not claiming you need a whole new makeup wardrobe and of course you don’t have to chose to make any changes but just incase you are struggling a little this summer I thought I would share a few tips.

It’s essential to start by clearing out your makeup bag (I have a whole post on it here). Remove any products you don’t use, may have broken or have gone off, it’s just clutter and you don’t need it. Now onto the good stuff…

The first thing to think about is the base, obviously you’re going to want to add an SPF if you haven’t already (whole post of face SPF’s). In terms of foundation a lot of people like to go a little lighter with coverage try a tinted moisturiser, BB or CC cream. I personally quite like , or the. Also don’t forget you will probably get a little darker so go for one that reflects that as these products are quite sheer and can be blended in.

Personally I usually still stick with a medium coverage foundation which I often sheer out with a moisturiser, I also like to buy one that’s significantly darker and then mix it in with my usual foundation colour to make a shade tailored to me which I can make darker as the summer goes on. My go to summer foundation is either in shade 52 and 57 or . If you are finding that your foundation doesn’t last long enough then use a primer such as especially as powder can often look a little too much in the summer.

Since we’re on the subject of looking a little too much, go easy on the brows. I personally tend to swap my eyebrow powders and pencils for a eyebrow gel as I find it’s a little softer, I love the which lasts really long too. I’d say the same goes for eyeliner although I personally still wear lots, I think you can get away with just a few coats of mascara but you may want to change over to something a little more waterproof such as .

Now for the fun part- adding colour!

Bright lips are summer essentials; corals, pinks and even reds all look beautiful in the summer. You can go for a matte statement lip, a glossy fun one or a sheer more subtle colour. Personal favourites if you are looking for fun colours are Revlon Just Bitten, and YSL Sheer Candy Lipstick.

On the cheek I love to add bronzer to either contour or actually make my face appear a little more tanned but peach/coral blushers wether cream or powder look particularly beautifully and can really give the face a beautiful glow. I have a whole post on bronzers coming up soon but or Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder are both great depending on your budget.

To finish it all off I love a good facial spray, not only are they refreshing but really helps reduce the appearance of heavy makeup. My favourite to use both over and under makeup throughout the day are , Neal’s Yard White Tea Facial Mist or Caudalie Beauty Elixir.

I love a bright lip and a coral blush in summer too! I would also say in summer I like to keep a more colourful item of makeup out that I wouldn't normally use in winter to push myself to experiment a bit more.

Living in Malaysia means summer all year round so it's very rare that I use foundation. I am a huge fan of BB creams which is much lighter on the skin. My favourite BB cream has to be Hada Labo Air BB cream which also offers high SPF protection.

I definitely think the most important updates are the coloured items. Brights in terms of blushes and lipsticks are key.
