Borrowing Nail Polishes?

I actually don’t have any nail swatches for you today (my nails need a break too) but instead I am sharing a new subscription box with you. Yes, another one- but this ones is a little different.

Think back to the last time you finished a whole nail polish- can’t think of a time? Me neither. I think in my whole life time I have finished one, possibly two nail polishes, which is why it seems like a bit of a waste to buy 10/15ml bottles. I think I have thrown 10 times more nail polishes away because they have dried up than because I actually finished them.

Coloristiq is a new subscription box that allows you to borrow three nail polishes a month, use them up to three times a bottle (with two coats) and send them back. It a great way to try new colours, as well as giving you access to a greater shade range without having to store them.

However they only have four brands OPI, Essie, China Glaze and Morgan Taylor- although these are probably some of the best professional nail brands around with an impressive colour range.

To get started and receive your first nail polishes you simply sign up online, add your favourite shades to your wishlist and receive three every month. The nail polishes arrive in the post and you are allowed to use each polish three times with two coats before sending them back using the pre paid postage stamp. My worry was having to queue up regularly at the post office to send them back but you actually just seal the box up and post it through the Royal Mail Pillars.

Although I have been sent a sample box I can’t actually comment on how the real subscription boxes come, the state of the nail polishes and how easy it actually is to get the colours of your choice so if you have tried the service please do let me know about your experience in the comments.

This service costs £14.49 for three nail polishes and postage both ways, making it £4.83 a nail polish in comparison to £11+ for an OPI nail polish. This is a great service for those who love to change the colour of their nail regularly but if you know you will use the same colours more than three times you are better off buying a full bottle especially for brands such as China Glaze and Essie where nail polishes can be found on eBay for under £5.

Overall I love this idea, although I do think it’s a little on the pricey side and would like to see the amount of brands grow. I personally have hundred of nail polishes which I am now struggling to store and this service would allow me to have all the colours without the clutter. It’s great for anyone who wants to try new colours regularly but doesn’t have time to keep popping into store to buy them as the conveniently land on your door step.

What do you think of this service? Would you subscribe?

Interesting. It's a good idea, but how can they keep track of how many times you apply the nail polish and the amount of coats you use? Strange. I too have never finished an entire normal sized nail polish. Often times I'll purchase the OPI mini nail polishes, of which I have actually finished before they dried up! Haha. This is an interesting subscription, so please keep us updated on this 🙂

hmmm..not something I would subscribe to personally but I can see how theres a market for it. I also wonder how they test how many times its been used but hey..if thats what they said 🙂 I stopped ordering from most of these "boxes" subscriptions because I found I just had a big pile of sample sized things that I was never actually using. This actually makes more sense because you atleast won't be hoarding the stuff!

I had no idea about this! It's a great idea but I don't think I could afford it each month.. It's a lovely way to try nail colours you wouldn't normally try though! cottonandcandie xx

What a genius idea. It's nice to see that companys are now thinking outside of the box rather than more beauty products that we don't need. I would be intrigued to see how this works out as if the polishes last as long as they say they do would a month be enough to try all three. xx :o)

To be honest I'm not sure about this. I think my main concern is probably hygiene. What if somebody with a fungal, or any kind of infection, uses them? Also how can they monitor that you've only used them three times each? I guess it would be obvious if you've used the half the bottle, but how can they tell the difference between three and five uses? I don't personally think this one is for me x
