Combatting Allergy Face with Benadryl

I love spring and summer, it’s my absolute favourite!

But with spring and summer comes hay fever and I hate hay fever.

Hay fever is a relatively new thing to me (often starting in childhood or teenage years) but I now get all the symptoms – sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes and everything else that comes with hay fever. However, I recently went to a Benadryl event and picked up some great tips, which I wanted to share.

Hay fever varies throughout the year depending on what flowers/plans/trees are in season, what pollen is floating through the air and what each individual is allergic to, which is why some people get it all year round. Hay fever affects at least 13 million people in the UK. The good news for me though is that it often gets better as you get older, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

So since you’re probably here for some tips:
1. Stay indoors – maybe a little obvious and often not possible but if your hay fever is really bad staying indoors does help
2. Wear wraparound sunglasses – they can really help create a barrier between your eyes and the pollen
3. Change your clothes & shower once indoors to remove any pollen you’re carrying
4. Take Benadryl® Allergy Relief tablets which offer fast and effective allergy relief
5. Use make-up to conceal your allergy face

So on to a few make-up tips to help hide your hay fever symptoms – borrowed from Jo Freeman which I have been putting into play lots recently:

  • Use a colour corrector – I’ve been opting for the It Cosmetics CC Cream to help correct any redness around the nose, under the eyes and to even out the overall look of the skin, but you could use a more area specific one like the Max Factor Colour Correcting Sticks.
  • Keep the eye area looking fresh but defined with just a touch of waterproof mascara. My eyes are often puffy and start to stream throughout the day so I like to go light on the eye makeup, add some concealer and a touch of Eyeko Waterproof Mascara.
  • Contour lightly to add definition to the face and reduce the look of a puffy face. I love a bit of contour everyday but it’s extra important on puffy face days. My favourite is the Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze and Glow. I then finish it with a touch of highlighter.
  • Opt for a bold lip to draw attention away from hay fever symptoms and instead to your pretty pout. I love this tip and it’s one I follow whether I am suffering from hay fever or am just really tired – it’s a great one!
