spring nails 2016
I haven’t spoken about nail polish in a little while on ALO but since it’s Manicure Monday and the first day of Drugstore week I thought I would share my spring picks.

A quick note on Manicure Monday, I have stopped doing it as I have become a little bit of a shellac addict but do let me know if you miss them and I might be tempted to ditch the gel.

I get particularly excited about nails in spring and summer, I love pastels and slightly more daring colours, often teamed with more natural bronzy makeup. I think the nails is a really easy place to play with colour and I don’t believe there is any reason to pay lots of ££ for nail polish when drugstore ones are so good- in fact none of these are over £7!

Rimmel Super Gel in Bare Hug– it might be spring but you always need a nude in your nail polish wardrobe, this one is a really beautiful greige, which is surprisingly flattering and easy to wear.

Bourjois 1 Seconde in Jamais Saumon Vernis – I love how quick and easy the Bourjois 1 Seconde Polishes are to apply as they have beautiful fanned out brush with a great long lid which makes it really comfortable to hold. This colour is a fun but subtle peachy shade that would look particularly beautiful paired with a tan.

Avon Gel Shine in Mint to Be- I’ve been avoiding mint polishes all winter but I have heard great things about these Avon Gel Shine polishes and although I am yet to try it I couldn’t help but include it, so pretty!

Topshop Nails in Leigh- I am in love with the new denim inspired Topshop and Leigh is my favourite, I love pale blue polishes, they’re so fun and spring-y.

Barry M Speedy in Freestyle- These Barry M Speedy Quick Dry Polishes are my go-to when I’m in a rush as they really do dry quickly, I’m loving this pale pink which I would happily wear for months on end.

Barry M Coconut Infusion in Flamingo- The newest range from Barry M, this is the ultimate tan colour and I cant wait to pain my toes with this colour!

There are hundreds of candles on the market but they make a truly luxurious gift for almost anyone. I have so many at the moment that I thought I would talk you for my favourites to help you with your own Christmas wish list or your Christmas shopping.

Theres quite a few and I’m awful at describing scents so this will probably not be the greatest post…
If you are looking to add a little sparkle to someones Christmas/life through a candle then I have two equally beautiful picks. Space NK Shimmering Spice is a great festive one with a blend of cinnamon, citrus and vanilla- perfect for a festive party.  100 Acres Sweet Orange, Cinnamon and Clove is another great one, made with 100& natural essential oils- the scent is my favourite for cosy winter nights in.
If you’re on a budget fear not, as you will not be missing out. Sanctuary has a great range of candles but Yankee Candle would be my pick for inexpensive festive ones. There’s such a huge range that it’s almost to hard to pick; if you like sweet scents then Christmas Cupcake is perfect! If you want something a little more luxe than the Avon Winter Nights Candle has three wicks and is probably one of my favourite scents from all I’ve mentioned.
Keeping with the orange theme Origins Feel Good Candle and La Montana Winter Oranges smell absolutely dreamy! Origins Feel Good Candle is out 7th December  and comes beautifully house in a recycled wine glass base, even more excitingly Origins will be planting a tree for every candle sold in partnership with Global ReLead. For an organic, natural, really relaxing candle then Lucy Annabella is the way to go, Niaouli & Lavender is my current favourite, especially great after a stressful December. If you’re looking for a more unisex candle or love Oud then you will love Van Cleef & Arpels Perfumed candles which is a really sexy, sophisticated scents!

But above all my two picks are Neom and Jo Malone, they’re my absolute favourites to give, receive and burn. Both brands do really special candles perfect for Christmas gifts!

Before coming away on holiday I noticed that there was a lot of drugstore creeping into my daily routine.

The most exciting one for me was L’Oreal Elvive Oil-in-cream, which is a new product and leave in oil cream. I like to use oils in my hair but find that as my hair is quite fine it can easily look greasy but I find this really leaves my hair looking hydrated without it looking greasy or weighing it down. L’Oreal Elvive is one of my all time favourite ranges from the drugstore and this is such a great addition to that. I use it in my hair both wet and dry, I can see this quickly becoming a stable in my routine.

A product that has become a summer stable is the Garnier Oil Beauty Nourishing Lotion; it smells great, has a great pump and leaves skin feeling beautifully hydrated too, perfect for use on holiday or whilst at home to keep skin in good condition.

After hearing everyone talk about Essie Ballet Slippers Nail polish for years I have finally got my hands on it and I can actually see why it’s so hyped up! Its the perfect almost white pale pink. I love the finish, it applied beautifully and is a really great summer colour!

A rediscovery is the Avon Super Shock Liners which I forgot about for a while but I always fall in love with just how creamy it is. As it’s quite soft I find it to be really pigmented but I find that it does set quite nicely too.

The amount of nude lipglosses I have is a little deciduous but I really do love them! My most recent love is the Rimmel Oh My Gloss in the shade Purr… Glossy Cat, it’s perfect. It does have a little shimmer which I usually don’t love but it’s a really easy to wear shade that helps lips look plumper and goes with almost every makeup look.

To say I like routine is a little bit of an understatement and when I find something that works for me I tend to stick to it! Recently I have been wearing pretty much the same makeup over and over swapping only the eyeshadow or the false lashes depending on the occasion.

Please excuse the funny pictures (and no comments about how I look like an idiot with a duck face, it’s the look I am going for!)

Face:  Monu Recovery Balm, Avon Ideal Flawless foundation, Collection 2000 Concealer, MAC Prep&Prime powder, Sleek Makeup Contour kit,

Eyes: Urban Decay Smoked Palette (shades Freestyle, Kinky, Barlust and Backdoor), Urban Decay Primer Potion,  Eyelure Lashes in The Chelsea Look (part of 65th Birthday range), Clinique High Impact Extreme Mascara, L’oreal Carbon Gloss

Lips: MAC Patisserie lipstick

Fake Tan: Laurens Way

Most of the things I used are real stables that I would struggle to live without! I do however switch the mascara up as I don’t love this one and am looking for a good waterproof eyeliner. The newer addition to my routine are the false lashes and the smoked palette (Review here) but have quickly become essential!

In other news, you may have realised I haven’t been blogging quite as much simply because I have been so busy with university, events and have been going out more and spending less time at home. But I have lots of fun posts planned such as Christmas Giveaways, Gift Guides and I am booking myself a spa day with the vouchers which Ladbrokes have provided me with! The idea behind it is that Ladbrokes new game so exhilarating you’ll need a spa treatment afterwards, I’m not actually the betting type but I am the spa type! I’m also in Newcastle for the next few days, so I would love some ideas on what to do whilst here and I may do a post or two about it

Hope you’re having a great weekend!
