Although I’ve been to Paris a few times I had never been to Le Palais Royal which I have seen in everyones Instagram photos. I’m not too sure what the building actually is but the middle square is a great place to relax, enjoy the sunshine and just people watch.
We were on our way out when we passed here and I went for this all black outfit; my Topshop Jamie Jeans which I am loving along with my Topshop Tie Strap Top that I find is a great go-to easy to wear but chic top. I teamed them with my strappy Primark heels which I adore but have kind of seen better days.
I’m sure this will end up being a reoccurring outfit this summer, even if it is all black.
I’m such an over packer and after facing Paris’ Metro stations (which don’t have enough escalators or lifts) with my super heavy suitcase I was happy to find that the hotel was literally right outside the exit. I managed to mess up the days but they were very understanding and kindly changed our booking. We dropped our things off early, far too early for check-in but they looked after all our suitcases.
We went out for some breakfast and to explore a little before coming back to collect our room keep and check out the room. I was surprised at just how large it is as the previous hotel I stayed in, in Paris, was tiny- I mean we could barely put our bag down. We did stay in the Executive Room but it was actually cheaper than the room I had previously stayed in and double the size!
Once we had dumped everything off we asked the hotel staff for some recommendations which were all great and they also gave us a map! The hotel was a short walk from the Palais the Palais Royal which I’ve never been to before but is very popular with Instagrammers and from there we went on to the Louvre and the Tuileries Gardens.
It was great that the hotel had a tube just outside as it made getting back so easy even in the evening. We were lucky to get great weather whilst out there and spent our Friday evening eating Pizza and then at the Eiffel Tower watching all the street acts, it was such a beautiful evening!
Once we got back we had a huge comfy bed and although the hotel is on a fairly busy road we didn’t hear any noise from the outside. The breakfast was also great; buffet style with everything I wanted from continental to full-english and absolutely delicious.
We didn’t spend too much time in the hotel but I would have been happy to, it had a desk to work on, good internet connection, a bath tub and even good magazines!
I also had a sneaky look in the room we were suppose to get if I hadn’t mixed up my days and it was beautiful, a little bit smaller but really charming- I was particularly impressed by the fireplace and double sink!
I had such a lovely stay and would really recommend the OperaOpera-Grand Boulevard Holiday Inn if you are looking for an affordable hotel room in Paris in a great location too. It had everything I need from a hotel and really exceeded my expectations, I’m already looking forward to going back…
I also filmed a Get Ready With Me whilst at the hotel, check it out below….
I thought I would share another outfit from Paris, once again all Topshop as I done a fairly large haul just before I left and took everything with me.
I love every item in this outfit although I did have a bit of a nightmare with this top as I managed to get deodorant stains all over it one morning and only realised once I was out exploring, meaning I was forced to wear my jacket all day in the heat. I’m in love with cami’s at the moment and although the Topshop ones aren’t the cheapest they are affordable and nice layered fabric, better quality than some of my cheaper ones. I’m really tempted to go back and pick up a few other colours as I think it’s a great summer stable. I do struggle a little with this sort of camisole’s and my bra situation which is why I picked up another Strapless Wonderbra from House of Fraser, I think it’s a total must have item, it’s the best strapless bra I’ve ever tried as it’s comfortable, offers support and gives a great shape too.
Onto my shorts, if you saw these in my haul I mentioned that I bought them in the tall section in Topshop making them a little bit longer which I love as I carry most my weight on my thighs so short shorts aren’t really my style. These are super cute as you can pair them with so many different items and I find the crochet detailing particularly cute.
Initially I didn’t think I would even like these sandals let alone love them but I do. I love them so much that I am considering buying a second identical pair just in case. I love the colour as it’s very flattering on tanned skin, they’re comfortable and I love the look of them. I’m trying not to wear them everyday in order to save them for my holiday but it’s proving quite tricky!
I’m currently doing a little online shopping for the next few months whilst all the sales are on, if you’re doing the same then check out VoucherBinUK for all sort of discount codes including some great Health & Beauty ones, I’m so tempted to put in a Philosophy order! I also picked up a few bits in stores today, have you been sale shopping yet?
I am the worst unpacker (and packer) and since my makeup bag was still sitting in my suitcase I thought I would share with you some bits I took to Paris with me. I used this experience as a bit of a test run for next months 4.5 week holiday which has already got me worried, how do I pack 4 weeks of my life into a 23KG suitcase?
Back to my Paris makeup bag, I wanted to keep it small but I still need options. I took one eyeshadow palette and one mascara, my Lorac Pro palette and Too Faced Better than Sex. The mascara was a no brainer, I don’t use anything else so it would be silly to take more than one but I was a little unsure about the Lorac Pro Palette, in the end I think it was a good decision although I might take two next month. Its a great slimline, travel friendly palette with 16 shades, all wearable and ranging from matte to shimmery.
I choose three blushers, a bronzer, a highlight and a contouring palette which now seems pretty excessive but I was packing in a rush. The Smashbox Contour palette was a great pick, once again it’s pretty streamline and has three great colours; a contour, a bronzer and highlight all of which I often use on my eye. The blush I used most was Clinique Melon Pop as I’m loving just a slight hint of blush at the moment but I also took my mini Nars Orgasm Blush and Burberry Orange Blossom Lip & Cheek Bloomwhich I didn’t end up using. I only used my Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light once too and I could have easily have used the one from my Smashbox Contour Palette instead but it is a really beautiful subtle bronzer. The highlight which I actually used quite regularly was Pur Afterglow Illuminating Powder.
Before heading to Paris I went to see Hannah, a Topshop Personal Shopper at the Oxford Street Store. I wasn’t really too sure what to expect from the experience but ended up loving it. I’ve been struggling to shop recently as I just don’t know what I want so it was great to have a little help as well as to see how Hannah styled everything. I ended up getting a few items but left with ideas as to what I want to buy the rest of the summer, it’s a free experience, with no minimum spend that I would really recommend.
I asked for a denim dress and after trying on a few I choose this one as I liked the mid-wash, the shape and length of the sleeves and I haven’t stopped wearing it. It’s a great easy to wear dress that can be teamed with almost anything, a chunky heel, a gladiator sandal(like here) or in this case my Ugg Espadrilles.
My sunglasses are also a current favourite from Quay and I’ve been loving these Ugg Espadrilles, really comfortable and I love the pattern although they do make a bit of a noise when I walk which is a little annoying when I’m somewhere very quiet.
