drugstore favesSo drugstore week has come to a close, I do have one more video to upload but it requires me recording a voice over and I have a cold so I’m going to try to postpone to a time where I have a slightly less nasally voice.

I really enjoyed forcing myself back into the drugstore and have discovered so many great products in doing so. A few years back whilst I was still a student this blog was focused almost fully on drugstore makeup but as my blog grew and as I became an adult (and got a job) I seemed to move on to higher end products which often feel more luxurious but there are some real treasures to be found in Boots and Superdrugs.

My top new discoveries of this week have been the Maybelline Brow Satin which I have used every day since discovering it and the Sleek Matte Me Lipstick in Birthday Suit.

When filming my new video (out later this video) I had a good rummage through my collection and made some great re-discoveries. The L’Oreal Glam Bronze is the perfect winter bronzer, adding just the perfect amount of warmth to the face. I also used the Seventeen Eyes On Me palette in Birthday Suit and turns out it has some truly beautiful, creamy colours (I didn’t try the creams shadows though).

The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Me Lip Colors are out in March and I’m so glad that you guys seem to be as excited as I am (Swatches here).

I’ve embedded all my #drugstoreweek videos below incase you haven’t had a chance to watch them all yet but don’t forget to check out My Guide to the UK Drugstore.

I’m thinking of making Drugstore week a regular thing, maybe every 3 months or so- let me know what you think in the comments. I really want to share my favourite affordable brushes, as well as dive into drugstore skincare.

What drugstore posts would you like to see next?

drugstore

Today is a bit of a preview to my absolute favourite drugstore products which I will share with you tomorrow but I thought I would quickly go through the UK drugstore brands, what products I like and which I love. I’m hoping it might help anyone that is a little scared of drugstore, looking for great affordable products or someone coming to the UK and looking to get a few products which you might not be able to get in other countries.

B. (available here)
My top pick: Brush Cleanser
Available exclusively in Superdrugs B. is quite a new brand and I haven’t tried too much from them, their brushes are quite nice but their brush cleanser is my favourite!

Barry M (available here)
My top pick: Nail Paints
One of the best brands to pick up whilst in the UK as it still isn’t too widely available everywhere else, their Dazzle Dust are quite underrated if you love shimmery shadow but their nail paints are a must try and very affordable. They offer everything from nail care to glitter and gel effect polishes.

Bourjois (available here)
My top pick: Healthy Balance Powder
Available quite readily in Europe Bourjois has really high quality products at great prices. Although their foundations break me out I think they are a great drugstore option for anyone that doesn’t have sensitive skin. Their blushers are some of my absolute favourites but their concealers and lipsticks are also worth a look.

Collection (available here)
My top pick: Lasting Perfection Concealer
Very affordable drugstore brand, I personally find the Lasting Perfection Concealer a little drying but it’s very affordable and highly rated by so many people that it’s a must try.

Gosh (available here)
My top pick: Velvet Touch Liners
Surprisingly this was the hardest brand for me to pick a top product from, everything is nice but there isn’t really anything I can’t live without. Other than the Velvet liners, the lipsticks and blushers are also both really nice.

L’Oreal (available here)
My top pick: True Match Foundation
L’Oreal True Match foundation is an absolute must have with a nice colour selection but the liners, neutral eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks are also worth picking up.

Makeup Revolution (available here)
My top pick: Eyeshadow Palettes
Known for offering affordable alternative to cult beauty products, their palettes and lipsticks are great alternatives to highend brands.

MaxFactor (available here)
My top pick: Mascaras
Although I love the whole range, no other drugstore brand offers better volumising mascaras than MaxFactor, I don’t have a particular favourite but all the ones I have tried have been great.

Maybelline (available here)
My top pick: Instant Eye Eraser Concealer
Great all round brand but the Instant Eye Eraser is a great alternative to highend concealers and I would quite happily swap my usual cocnealer for it. I also really like Dream Flawless Nude Foundation, Brow Satin Eye Pencil and their Color Sensational Lipsticks.

Models Own (available here)
My top pick: Nail Polishes
Models Own started by offering nail polishes and I still think it’s what they do best. My favourite colours are Beach Bag and Utopia although their Hypergel and glitters are generally great ranges.

MUA (available here)
My top pick: Luxe Velvet Lipsticks
Anther super inexpensive UK beauty brand, their eyeshadow palettes are also great value for money!

Real Techniques (available here)
My top pick: Core Collection brushes
Probably my favourite brush brand, their original collection is still by far my favourite along with their sponge, I would personally skip the bold metals collection (although they look beautiful) as they’re pricier and not as soft.

Revlon (available here)
My top pick: Colorstay Foundation (particularly for oily skins)
Revlon is a great brand for almost everything and it has quite a makeup artist feel to it. If you like lip crayons then Revlon do the best affordable ones.

Rimmel (available here)
My top pick: Exaggerate Lipliner in Eastend Snob
Theres so many great items from Rimmel, the whole Exaggerate range is excellent, I love their lipsticks and I reach for their foundations and concealers regularly.

Sleek Makeup (available here)
My top pick: Contour Kit
Has a special place in my heart as I use to blog about Sleek endlessly when I first started blogging. Palettes, blushers and Matte Me in Birthday Suit are all well loved in my collection.

Soap & Glory (available here)
My top pick: Kick Ass Concealer
Slightly higher price point in comparison for drugstore products but I adore their body products. Other great product include Brow Archery, Supercat liner and Thick & Fast Mascara

Topshop (available here)
My top pick: Lipsticks
Not strictly drugstore as it’s available only in Topshop stores but a great price point. All the lip products, blushers, bronzers and nail polishes I have tried have been fab but the glow highlighter has to be the best cream affordable one I own.

Would love to hear your drugstore recommendation in the comments, are there any drugstore secrets I am missing?

revlon hd lipcolors uk liquid lipstick
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor addiction Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor love Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor Obsession
Liquid lipsticks seem to be everywhere recently and I have really been enjoying trying them which is why I was super excited for the new Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor to come through the door.

Sadly they’re only available to purchase in March so theres a little while to go still but I have been road testing them and wanted to share my thoughts.

Overall I really love them and I can’t wait to check out the other three colours from the seven colour range. The video below includes swatches, my thoughts and the overall wear throughout the day.

Available from March, RRP £8.99 at Boots, Superdrugs and Amazon

lipstick

It’s January. Most of us spent too much on food and presents last month and therefore our bank balances aren’t looking as healthy as usual. It’s also cold and getting colder – I’m seriously starting to miss the sunshine and am patiently waiting for the summer months to get here.

When life gets tough(er) I like to call on all those lipstick quotes, you know ‘lipstick can’t solve all your problems, but it’s a good place to start’; ‘If you’re sad add more lipstick and attack’; or ‘Just put your favourite lipstick on and deal with it.’ Any of these cliche quotes will do. Basically I think lipstick goes a long way to making you feel better and help you deal with life.

If I’m having a really rough day then I always go for a bright red, not only does it portray a certain amount of confidence but it makes me feel that little bit more powerful and able to conquer my day. The drugstore does great affordable red’s. However, theres something extra special and bold about Topshop Rio Rio. As it’s an orange red, it’s a colour I would typically associate with summer, but the hint of blue makes it wearable all year round.

Another great powerful shade, which is a little more appropriate for winter, is Rimmel ‘The Only One Lipstick in Under My Spell.’ It’s a great vampy shade which actually isn’t too scary or dark making it very wearable- I also love the smell, which is a plus!

Then onto nudes, which I simply can’t get enough of recently…

Sleek Matte Me in Birthday suit has been my favourite lip product recently. It’s a matte liquid lipstick in a dusty rose shade, perfect for everyday especially as it last pretty much all day.

If you’re more of a traditional lipstick gal then the L’Oreal Colour Riche lipsticks are amazing! From the bright colours to the nudes, I love them all and there is a colour for everyone. Julianne’s Nude has been my Colour Riche of choice, it’s a great nudey pink which feels really nice on the lips.

If trying a new brand fills you with excitement, as it does for me, then I have been trying out the Color Studio Matt Lipsticks. Asia is a beautiful darker nude, especially for a medium skin tone looking for a MLBB shade, but the whole range has some great colours!

What drugstore lipstick gets you through dark January days?

press on elegant touch nails

I’m pretty fortunate when it comes to my nails, they are pretty strong and usually quite long but a couple of weeks back a few broke and I was considering acrylic nails.

Now I have never had acrylic nails and I wouldn’t recommend them, they weaken your natural nails a lot but I just really wanted a nice length and shape for the festive season. After sharing my lust for acrylic nails with a few people (naturally they all gasped in disbelief) they all started to recommend Elegant Touch Totally Bare Press on nails. I feel like this is a secret everyone knew but me!

Straight away visions of me with 14 year old girls nails, covered in nail art popped into my head but I thought I’d give it a go especially with so many people recommending them.

I went for the Oval 002 Elegant Touch Totally Bare ones which were very easy to find in Superdrugs and I also bought a glue to go with it, it all came to under £8, such a bargain in comparison to acrylics, especially as a box is enough for two uses! My first go wasn’t overly successful but you learn through trial and error, right? I wanted to keep the length of my nails underneath but this meant the fake nail didn’t sit as well so I had to cut them soon after but other than they were pretty easy to apply. My big worry was them just popping off, this does happen but not as often as I thought, maybe once every two days but typically when I’m at home opening something and it’s really easy to just glue back down in half a minute.

I did have to paint them myself but actually doing so is better, as you can pick the exact colour you want, it makes them look more natural and the polish dies really fast on the plastic nail (and never chips!) I’ve also tried the Stiletto variation which is what I have on currently, they’re nice but not as wearable or as long lasting as the ovals as they’re really quite long and a little curved meaning they get knocked a fair bit. It takes a little while to get use to them depending on what you’re natural nail is like, if you have very short nails it might be worth starting with the square and seeing how you get on with them.

If you’re going to give them a go then I do have a few tips…
Buy brush on glue and be generous when applying it, I’m not suggesting you apply too much but just enough to coat the whole nails.
Cut your own nails nice and short underneath as this will make them last longer.
Before you start applying the fake nails get rid of the huge ones which will never fit your nails as it makes it less confusing when choosing the correct size.
Keep the glue in your bag for emergency application should one come off.
Go for one that’s slightly smaller than your natural nails rather than slightly bigger.

Overall I’m in love with them, they lasts much longer than normal nail polish with minimal up keep. They deliver the exact look I love and super affordable too! I’ve had so many compliments from people who think they’re real and I feel that my nails are always ready for an Instagram photo.

I must admit I still have no idea the proper way to remove them, I simply sit in the bath for a while and then probe around the edges and pull it off. Also interested in trying other brands so would love to hear about your experience with press on nails in the comments

PS. My laptop has gone into repairs but Peexo (amazing fashion blog here) has kindly lent me hers, this does mean that I lost all my photos for this blog post so please excuse the phone photos.
