Finally it’s Friday! It’s been a long week back for most of us and I have a cheeky suspicion it’s going to be a long month. If you’re staying home this week, wether that’s because you’re trying to save a little money or you just fancy relaxing, then I thought I would share my 5 top films/series to watch this weekend. There is a mixture of new and old but I hope you enjoy them…

Schitts Creek, Netflix

If you’re wondering what I have spent far too much time doing this month, it’s watching Schitt’s Creek and I have been loving it. It’s a comedy series with five relatively short seasons: it follows a well-to-do family who suddenly became bankrupt and are left only with a depressing and small middle American town named ‘Schitt’s Creek’ – a practical joke gift given from the father of the Schitt family a few years before we are introduced to the story, to his son. It’s really easy to watch and funny! Episodes are only 20ish minutes long so it’s a good one to get through without huge commitment. It’s been a great alternative to Friends for days where I just want to relax.

Two Popes, Netflix

When I first heard all the hype around Two Popes I was a little unsure it was for me as I’m not religious, but I decided to watch it anyways. It’s a fictitious yet seemingly accurate look behind the scenes of the Vatican walls as it follows Pope Benedict and Pope Francis and their unlikely friendship. This will probably be the one time I recommend something quite as religiously themed as this but its a rare look into the leadership of the Catholic Church. It’s also a comedy and throughly enjoyable and entertaining.

Sex Education , Netflix

I plan to personally spend my weekend watching Sex Education as season two has been released today. Michael and I were really unsure we’d enjoy this when we started season one, as we thought it was more aimed at teens, but I’d recommend it no matter your age (not for children or early teens). It follows a high school boy whose mum is a sex therapist and who then sets up his own secret sex therapy clinic in school to help with his class mates, despite not having much experience himself. Since there are only two seasons, it’s a great one to watch without getting lost in weeks worth of shows.

Call Me My Your Name, Netflix

I don’t typically watch many films and this one had been on my to-watch-list for a while and I regret not watching it sooner. It’s based on a book (which I am yet to read) and follows a teenager’s journey with his sexual orientation and the relationship he forms with his father assistant. Its by far the best romantic film I have seen in a very long time! I laughed, I cried and I’ve rewatched it over and over again.

The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, Amazon Prime

I have been recommending ‘The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’ to everyone: it’s the best series I have seen in a while. It is set in the late 1950’s as we follow the ups-and-downs of recent divorcee/newbie stand-up comedienne Midge Maisel’s journey through her life-changing moments The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino who also created Gilmore Girls, it’s a bit like a jewish 1950’s version of ‘Modern Family’ and I love ‘Modern Family.

What will you be watching this weekend?

PS. Huge thanks to Joe & Seph’s for sending me popcorn, which I’ll definitely be enjoying this weekend whilst watching Sex Education. They’re popcorn is the absolute best!

So I now have a makeup bag. Don’t get me wrong, I also have a ridiculous makeup collection (that needs a clear out soon, which I’ll film for YouTube) but the makeup bag is really working for me. Less choice means less indecision and all the products I use I really love but these are my five highlights.

I feel like I speak about little else at the moment but IT Cosmetics has been rocking my world since it landed in Selfridges. The American brand has some absolutely taken over my makeup bag and I go so easily have just made this a IT Cosmetics top 5 (would you like to see that next?) but if I had to pick one item it’d be the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. I spoke about it in a post a few months back (here) so I won’t go into too much detail but its my absolute favourite- nothing else compares.

Someone told me the new L’Oreal Paradise Mascara was dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, which is my favourite mascara ever! Naturally I laughed, as I just couldn’t believe it could ever be true but I was curious and I did try it. I’m so glad I did and I’m happy to report I like it as much as the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I have found that it falls a little bit but the drama it delivers it absolutely perfect!

I have quite a lot of MAC lipsticks and picking which ones to take away is hard and I actually think MAC Brave made it into my holiday makeup bag as a last minute addition but I am so glad it did. It has quickly become my favourite lipstick, which I actually haven’t had for a while. I use to love MAC Patisserie lipstick but was starting to find it too nude and Brave is basically it’s slightly darker, slightly more grown up sister- it’s perfect.

And another lipstick/lip treatment I have been enjoying is the Kiehl’s Butter Stick in Naturally Nude. I loved it on holiday by the pool or on the beach as it has SPF25 but even now back in London, it’s the perfect quick and easy hydrating lip.

Finally, the Too Faced Hangover primer is back in my life! It’s silicone free and hydrating perfect for skin that may have been a little exposed to sun over the summer. I love how it works under makeup, helping my makeup last longer and my skin look better.

What have been your five makeup favourites?

festivalIf you follow me on Snapchat (alittleobsessed) then you might have seen that I spent Saturday at British Summer Time Festival with Sonic Chic, listening to Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine whilst eating far too much junk food and sheltering from occasional rain storms.

It was such a great time and I thought I would share some of my festival essentials.

As I wore shorts some pre-festival leg prep was essential, I used a BIC disposable razor which I have been loving as they are super affordable and the Vita Liberata Body Blur, which is a game changer! Although I love going bare-legged my legs are less than perfect and this really helps them, it offers a little bit of a tan and coverage whilst still looking really natural, it’s basically a foundation for your legs. I was worried about wearing it all day and had no issues whatsoever, even when I spilt a drink down my legs and was caught in a downpour. I would avoid wearing it with a white dress as I think it might transfer a little but other than it is amazing! I also think I’ll be taking this on holiday with me as it’s great for the evening but washes off when I want to sit by the pool and catch a real tan.

In terms of makeup, I think that a festival is the perfect excuse to have some fun. There are so many festival gems around but I love the Lottie ones as they actually have some dainty very wearable ones. I ran out of time but temporary tattoos are also so much fun and there are so many incredible designs about now. However personally I still think glitter is really fun and Topshop probably does the most impressive, inexpensive one! I have another festival coming up next week and I don’t think I’ll be able to resist!

Onto handbag essentials…

Hand sanitizer, doesn’t need explaining, it’s essential! Tissue, in case the loos are all out or if like me you’re a little clumsy and spill your drink. Even in London sun cream is essential as it’s so important to stay safe in the sun, especially if you’re going to be outside all day! If it’s a hot day then a facial mist such as Avene Eau Thermale spray can be really refreshing and Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo is a great way to freshen your hair up throughout the day without getting the sort of buildup many other dry shampoos leave you with. I also like to pack a toothbrush with me and if you’re camping it is absolutely essential, I love the Sonic Chic one as it not only looks cute but it’s electric, making it the perfect toothbrush for festivals and traveling, I’ll be taking mine to Portugal at the end of the month.

Have you got any festival plans this summer? What are your festival essentials?

As the days go on I get more and more obsessed with Snapchat! I can’t believe that my last post like this was back in October, since then it’s become an even bigger and better platform. It’s hard to decide who to add, as you can’t preview it so I’ve left a super brief description and links to their Instagram. I’d recommend adding the ones you might like and after a few days it might be worth having a small clear out. I’ve really tried to pick only the best, so here are 20 more of my favourites…

current beauty staplesThe posts have been lacking a little on ALO recently, especially the beauty ones and I feel it’s because I haven’t been trying anything new recently. After years of trying new products over and over again I’ve gotten a little bored of it. I’m quite enjoying using products I know and love on a daily basis, some do change daily but there are six which I have been sticking to religiously.

Sisley So Intense Eyeliner– This eyeliner is stupidly expensive but it’s the best and I really think I am going to be repurchasing it soon, it’s that good. I love the tip and find it really easy to use but what makes it stand out is just how black it has remained. I’ve been using it for a surprisingly long time and it’s still blacker than some liners are a week after buying them.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer– I’m not sure this is the best eyeshadow primer ever but I have been reaching for it over all my other ones. It keeps my eyeshadow in place and really helps with the vibrancy of the shadow, I’ve had it for a while and its lasted really well too.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow– Another stupidly expensive product which I have been using daily. The contour is a perfect natural shade which can be built up whereas the highlight adds a nice glow without going overboard.

Benefit Speed Brow- This is one of those products that people don’t really get why I love it do much. Most people love Benefit Gimme Brow as it does more than Speed Brow but since my brows are already quite dark and defined I just need something that will keep them in place but still look natural.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer– I wasn’t expecting there to be two Benefit products in this post but I have been using Benefit Hoola Bronzer for years and it has a special place in my everyday makeup drawer. It’s a really beautiful, natural looking bronzer which I sometime even use to add shape to my face or to add depth to my crease.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder- Not the best powder even but it’s always in my handbag, it’s affordable so I’m not too precious with it, it has a great mirror and get the job done.
