Origins Warm Down Lava Scrub
I’ll admit that I think this is a little bit gimmicky, I don’t know if you really need a body scrub designed especially for post gym but I have been using this one for a few weeks and have been loving it. This is the first body warming body scrub I have ever used and the shower-activated Volcanic Ash which warms on contact with water is suppose to help ease muscle tension as well as purify. I’m not too sure if it really does that but it’s a beautifully gentle scrub which I find to be super luxurious and relaxing because of the warming sensation. It’s a little more than I usually spend on a scrub but it’s the perfect pamper product and I really look forward to using it.
Goldwell Kerasilk Repower Volume Blow Dry Spray
I have been loving salon designed hair products recently and my most recent discovery is the Goldwell Kerasilk Repower range. My favourite product is this Volume Blow Dry spray as it has heat protection but also adds volume to my hair without being sticky and difficult to work in.
SinfulColors X Kylie Jenner
If you’re a Kylie Jenner fan and want to buy something from her beauty empire but don’t fancy paying the custom charges for a lip kit than you’ll be happy hear that her collaboration with SinfulColors is available for just £3 from Superdrug. I went for the colour Miss Chief which is a dusty lavender/pink shade with tiny specs of silver shimmer which is luckily barely noticeable on the nail and is just a typical me colour.
Jo Malone London Carrot Blossom & Fennel
This might be a big statement but I think this might be my favourite Jo Malone scent ever and it’s really really grown on my since the first time I tried it. It’s light and summery with (as you’d imagine) hints of carrot and fennel as well as apricot and white musk. It’s a great travel friendly size which I think might make it my summer holiday scent.
Soft & Gentle 2 in 1 Shower and Shave mousse
Not the most glamorous product but essential and it’s been living in my shower for the last couple of weeks. It’s designed for intimate skin and pH balanced but have been using it even to shave my legs and found it to work really well without irritating my skin. If you ever have issues with irritation shaving the bikini line (although it’s probably worth switching to waxing if you do) then this is a great product to try as it’s the only shaving cream I’ve seen designed with this area in mind.
When it comes to beauty, fragrance is probably the thing I know the least about. I know what I like and what I don’t but not really why and I am absolutely useless at describing scents.
I was told a while ago that Jo Malone fragrances are designed to be layered, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them all individually but instead that you can makeup something perfect for you by mixing two perfumes together. Since I know very little about fragrance I never gave this a go, I was interested in the concept but too scared to try it myself.
I recently popped into Jo Malone to find out a little more and for my own Fragrance Combining Consolation. Naturally we went through to find the sort of scents that I like but we also spoke about my favourite colour and my happy place. I mentioned that I really loved the new Fragrance Intense Orris and Sandal wood which she recommended I could layer with either Mimosa and Cardamom or Blackberry and Bay. I’m actually not a huge fan of Mimosa & Cardamom but combined with Orris and Sandalwood is the most perfect scent for me.
I ended up picking my favourite combination as Blackberry & Bay with Wood Sage & Sea Salt. The other interesting thing is that you can layer with their Body Cremes too and not just with the actual colognes, I ended up getting Wood Sage & Sea Salt as a Body Creme (although the Cologne is top of my wishlist) which I plan to wear under my Blackberry & Bay Cologne but apparently Mimosa & Cardamom also works well!
I feel like I’ve just added so many new fragrances to my collection just by learning with ones work well layered together, it’s amazing that mixing two fragrances can take an evening fragrance and turn it into a funner day one. I also just discovered the Jo Malone France Combining Tool on their website so I can’t wait to discover which other of my fragrances I can wear together!
I’d highly recommend popping into a Jo Malone store for a Fragrance Combining Consultation which are available in most stores, particularly if you’re after a signature scent, are getting married or just love fragrance!
Have you tried layering fragrance? Which fragrances do you like to layer?
I’m not really too sure how we’re into the second month of 2016 but we sure are! I’m hoping February will be a fun month so I’m actually really looking forward to it but more on that over the next few weeks…
January was a bit a fail in terms of working out but I did manage to try quite a lot of beauty items, many of which had been in my house for a while but I hadn’t got around to trying them. It was also drugstore week which forced me to try some inexpensive products and that was probably my favourite part of January. I’m fortunate enough to get send a fair amount of higher end products, meaning I often reach for the more luxurious over the more inexpensive but the drugstore is a truly great place! I discovered some great drugstore items and I also wrote a bit of a guide to the UK drugstore if you need a bit of guidance around Boots or Superdrugs.
There are hundreds of candles on the market but they make a truly luxurious gift for almost anyone. I have so many at the moment that I thought I would talk you for my favourites to help you with your own Christmas wish list or your Christmas shopping.
Theres quite a few and I’m awful at describing scents so this will probably not be the greatest post…
If you are looking to add a little sparkle to someones Christmas/life through a candle then I have two equally beautiful picks. Space NK Shimmering Spice is a great festive one with a blend of cinnamon, citrus and vanilla- perfect for a festive party. 100 Acres Sweet Orange, Cinnamon and Clove is another great one, made with 100& natural essential oils- the scent is my favourite for cosy winter nights in.
If you’re on a budget fear not, as you will not be missing out. Sanctuary has a great range of candles but Yankee Candle would be my pick for inexpensive festive ones. There’s such a huge range that it’s almost to hard to pick; if you like sweet scents then Christmas Cupcake is perfect! If you want something a little more luxe than the Avon Winter Nights Candle has three wicks and is probably one of my favourite scents from all I’ve mentioned.
Keeping with the orange theme Origins Feel Good Candle and La Montana Winter Oranges smell absolutely dreamy! Origins Feel Good Candle is out 7th December and comes beautifully house in a recycled wine glass base, even more excitingly Origins will be planting a tree for every candle sold in partnership with Global ReLead. For an organic, natural, really relaxing candle then Lucy Annabella is the way to go, Niaouli & Lavender is my current favourite, especially great after a stressful December. If you’re looking for a more unisex candle or love Oud then you will love Van Cleef & Arpels Perfumed candles which is a really sexy, sophisticated scents!
But above all my two picks are Neom and Jo Malone, they’re my absolute favourites to give, receive and burn. Both brands do really special candles perfect for Christmas gifts!
Last week I was invited by Fragrance Direct to make my own candle at the Rachel Vosper shop in Knightsbridge. Although the candle making class was amazing it was Rachel’s Candle Etiquette which I found most interesting. I really love candles, especially luxury candles and have been using Rachel’s tips to get the most from all of my candles.
I’ve never really thought of timing my candle burning time but candles should burn for no less than one hour and no more than four. Sticking to this means you allow the entire surface of the candle to burn, allowing for an even burn, with less tunnelling but the candle doesn’t over heat.
Wick lengths are also really important and should usually be kept to 6mm however if you’re going to be burning the candle for over three hours than it’s worth cutting the wick even shorter. If you’re going to be relighting a candle then always allow it to cool and solidify before you do so.
Then of course there are the basics, never leave a candle unattended and always keep them out of the reach of children and animals. One which I think it obvious but people seem to forget is to really consider what is going on around the candle, be careful with curtains or lose papers which can easily be flown into a candle. Also be careful with what the candle is sitting on too, not burning the candle all the way to the bottom will protect the candle vessel too.
Another cleaver tip for anyone who, like me, likes to use empty candle vessels to hold makeup brushes or someone that likes to refill the candle; place the vessel in the freezer overnight to shrink the wax. In the morning using hot (not boiling) water, rinse the vessel and polish with a soft cloth.
I love candles in autumn and winter, I’ve been burning a candle daily and a have a few waiting to be used. Of course I love Diptyque and Jo Malone but I’ve been trying out a few different ones recently. I haven’t had a chance to burn my Rachel Vosper candle which I made yet but I went for the Sandalwood & Cedar scent as I find it really warming. The Lucy Annabella Niaouli & Lavendar candle is the perfect evening candle as it has a really beautiful relaxing scent. The White Company Fresh Figs is the one I have been burning the most recently throughout the day and is a really lovely all year round candle. I’m patiently waiting for Christmas to burn La Montana Winter Oranges and the 100 Acres Candle. La Montana Winter Oranges has a really christmasy orange, cinnamon and clove scent which I love as it’s christmasy without the sicky sweet scent the lots of christmas candles come with. The 100 Acres candle comes in the most beautiful vessel, perfect for Christmas in any room.
