I’ve never really got the hype surrounding finishing powders, yes they set my makeup, my eyeliner wouldn’t transfer and most of the times my concealer wouldn’t crease but I never loved the finish. It was always a little too heavy and just a little cakey until I discovered the Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder and since then I haven’t looked back.
It’s a translucent powder designed to refine the complexion and reduce unwanted shine, it comes with a great little puff which really helps press the product into the skin without it being visible. It’s so finely milled that it isn’t detectable on the skin but still keeps skin mattified. The ingredients from Jurlique are also natural and although it does have a rose scent, it remains very pleasant and not over powering.
I was also surprised at how well it travels, the puff inside means the product stays where it’s suppose to be and the lid is so tight it can sometime be a little hard to open but means it won’t spill out everywhere.
It’s become my go-to powder and I haven’t used anything else since discovering it!
Most of us have done it. You’ve gone out, arrived home a little late, had a little to drink and simply fallen straight into bed. Most of us with like to deny it but sometimes it’s simply too late, you can just about bring yourself to brush your teeth before crawling under the covers. I figured since most of our diaries are getting filled with Christmas parties and with New Years on the horizon I thought I would share what I do the morning after.
Before bed- Sometimes I’m simply too tried to do this but I will try my best to cleanse, it’s usually a quick one but it’s better than nothing. Failing that I will either reach for a Micellar Water or a face wipe- I’ve recently been using the Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths. If I’ve had a drink or two I will also grab a large glass of water before bed as it help rehydrate you and I feel much better in the morning.
In the morning I start with another large glass of water and a really good cleanse. I double cleanse, usually with a sonic brush to help remove any makeup I left on my skin and waken up my skin. To prevent puffy, sore eyes I then use the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels which cool and de-puff eyes. Alternatively you can keep your eye gel, eye mask or even spoons in the fridge which will also help de-puff the eye area. To cool the skin I like a facial spray such as the Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist.
And then I like to move onto hydration. My skin is always super dehydrated and it’s made so much worse if I have alcohol, I like to use a serum such as Vichy’s Aqualia Thermal Serum which although feels light on the skin hydrates it and adds the luminosity my skin needs. I’ll then finish the skincare part with a little of my day cream and a great lip balm.
I then usually want to pile on the makeup but have to resist the urge and instead go for a lighter, dewy, natural look. I’ve been loving the Burberry BB Cream, it’s absolutely dreamy as it gives the skin a beautiful glow but I do then follow up with a concealer to hide tired eyes, redness and blemishes. My two weapons of choice are the Clarins Instant Concealer and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. I apply both the BB Cream and concealer largely with my fingers to stop it from sitting on the skin and do the same with a cream blush as I find it looks the most natural.
I don’t waste time with too much eyeshadow and will either skip it or apply a light cream shadow all over the eye. I do also apply a little tiny bit of Benefits Brow Glow in the inner corner of my eye and under my brow bone just to brighten the eye area a little. Once again to open the eyes, I use my trust eyelash curlers and a good few coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I skip my brows as they are fairly dark but if you do have fair brows filling them in with make the world of difference. I then finish off with a swipe of Clarins Lip Perfector which looks fairly natural but moisturised.
What are your go-to products after a late night?
Although holidays are relaxing mine was actually quite busy and no where near as relaxing as I’d hoped, I also tried not to pack too many beauty products which meant my pampering treat products had to stay behind.
I’m a bath person so after a whole month worth of showers I couldn’t wait for a long relaxing bath and used one of my Aromatherapy Associates Oils £33. I relaxed in the bath with the new Hello! Fashion Monthly Magazine which I think is worth mentioning as I’d stopped buying magazines as I simply think they’re getting too expensive but at £1 monthly it’s actually a really nice fashion magazine with great beauty pages.
Over the summer I found that the ends of my hair were getting a little dry due to the blonde and therefore went for the Tigi Catwalk Violet Mask for some TLC. I also find my hair sometimes goes into shock when making the transition back to hard water after four weeks of soft water and for this I always go back to Nioxin Diaboost £28.35 to help encourage hair growth and I use this for a few months. To help get my hair a little shinier and protected I’ve been using the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil £16 on wet hair.
Since my skin has been in the sun a little it’s also been feeling a little dry on both my face and body. On my face I used the Gazelli Volcanic Mud Mask £40 and Neals Yard Beauty Sleep Concentrate £31.50 an overnight treatment which is also beautifully relaxing in the evening.
I’ve been alternativing between Jurlique Rose Body Oil £38 and Soap & Glory Smoothie Star £10.50 depending on the time of the day. Soap & Glory Smoothie Star is my favourite for during the day although Jurlique Rose Body Oil is an absolutely beautiful treatment for the evening.
On my nails I’ve been reaching for the Nails Inc Gel Effect polish in Uptown £14, the colour is beautiful, super shiny and lasts a little longer than normal polish which is exactly what I look for.
product I have finished I realised it was a little long and I probably should
have done one a long time ago with less product so I will try and talk more
briefly in this post. Try.
products; Dryspun which I love, Thickening spray which I have been using for a
while and like as well as the Thickening Mousse which isn’t really finished. I think it
leg in some air which means the products is coming out runnier than it should
which meant I had to stop using it as it was just making my hair sticky.
Another disappointing product has been the Taya I Am Amazonian White Clay Leavein Conditioner, I felt the clay was a little thick and you could really feel it
in your hair.
favourite Liz Earle Botanical Shampoo, my favourite inexpensive shampoo which
is L’Oreal Elvive although it’s the first time I have tried the Fiberology
version and discover the Dove Dry Shampoo which I think is almost as good as
Facial Sprays The Body Shop Vitamin E Facial Mist, Caudalie Beauty Elixir,
Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist and Neal’s Yard White Tea Facial Mist. I have
a whole blog post here about facial mists where they are all featured so I
won’t give away too much but I love them all. I also finished the Emma HardyAmazing Face Cleanser which is great but I must admit I’m going of the LizEarle Cleanse and Polish a little recently, it’s not that it’s bad I just don’t
know if it’s great either.
recently check out the video here.
