perfume summer

Since it’s national fragrance day (Happy National Fragrance Day!) I thought I would share what perfumes I have recently received, to give you an idea what is new on the market. Admittedly I think writing about fragrance is particularly difficult and you have to be far more skilled of a writer than I am, so I guess this is your warning- this posts is unlikely to be very informative but I’ll try to not just say that a fragrance is ‘nice’ or ‘fruity’.

As I can’t stop talking about how excited I am for summer, lets start with the fragrances which remind me most of holiday. Michael Kors Coral is a very summery, floral, fruity fragrance with notes of Jasmin, Tuberose, Cedar and Orange. It’s a really great fun fragrance which would work well for any age. A more grown up summer scent is Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, don’t get me wrong it isn’t an ‘older’ scent, I absolutely love it but it probably isn’t one for teens. I love the white floral notes in this fragrance but I think it’s the coconut which makes it stand out from must other scents. It’s a slightly more luxe, exotic and unique smelling summer fragrance and I can’t wait to wear it more.

Last month I also got my first ever Penhaligon’s fragrance! I went into the Covent Garden store to pick it and it was a really great, sit-down experience. I spoke through what I like, what I usually wear and what I was looking for and after smelling quite a few, I picked Iris Prima. I typically love unisex scents so it’s no surprise I picked this Floral Woody Musk scent. I love the combination of leather, iris, Bergamot and vanilla. It’s probably my favourite ‘grown-up’ fragrance from my collection, it’s sophisticated with a touch of sexy and not at all over powering.

Another brand I only recently discovered is Bronnley, it’s a British brand started in 1884 and that has a royal warrant from the queen. Surprisingly the packaging and fragrance isn’t as traditional as you would expect, it’s all very pretty and modern. There’s something a little nostalgic about Crimson Cloud, I love the cherry blossom, bergamot and Raspberry notes.

If like me you’re a fan of YSL Black Opium, you’ll be excited to hear about Black Opium Nuit Blanche. Looks wise, not much has changed from the original Black Opium but this scent is inspired by Nuit Blache which is an arts festival in Paris which lasts all night. The scent really isn’t dissimilar to the original with the notes of Vanilla, Coffee and Orange Blossom but possibly even sweeter and younger.

tory burch Jolie Fleur Bleue
From Tory Burch and I have been wearing Jolie Fleur Bleue, it’s been released with two other floral scents; Fleur Verte and Felur Rose but this one is my favourite. I love the packaging of these fragrance, they’re really chic and elegant with just a pop of colour. Out of the three Fleur Bleue is the most interesting to me, it’s made up of Grapefruit, Sandalwood and Tuberose. I’m not overly crazy about this scent, it’s just a nice soft perfume but fairly expensive at £84 (100ml).

I’m quite the Jo Malone fan but Herb Garden range is surprisingly my favourite Jo Malone scents. There are five different scents; I have Carrot Blossom & Fennel and Sorrel & Lemon Thyme although Lavender & Coriander is my favourite from the collection. It’s a really unique collection and unlike any other fragrances I own so definitely one to smell in-store.
jo malone herb gardenI also wanted to quickly touch on the new Ghost Girlcrush perfume, the price point and packaging very much suggest it’s for teens but if you are on the market for a super sweet, everyday, young fragrance either for yourself or to gift then it’s a great one. It has the usually fruity notes of peach and pomegranate but definitely only for a sweet perfume fan.

There seem to be a huge rose theme in perfume at the moment but since I love rose I am really not compaining. Since I love tacky packaging I think the Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Rose is fab! I love the notes of pear in the fragrance, it’s quite a mild rose and a very wearable everyday fragrance. I touched on the Tory Burch perfume earlier, Jolie Fleur Rose smells to me a lot of tea rose and is a little bit of an older, more traditional scent. From Diptyque I have the Eau Rose Roller Ball which is a very true rose scent with a little lychee, it’s pretty but I don’t think it works too well on me. Dolce&Gabbana Dolce Rosa Excelsa is a really floral scent and not just rose, with notes of water lily and musk. Ellie Saab Rose Couture is a scent that has really grown on me, the vanilla scent makes it quite sweet and in my opinion more wearable. There are so many rose scents to choose from at the moment, so if you’re a rose fan you’re in luck!

If you made it to the end of this post well done! It’s quite lengthy and I have a huge headache after smelling far too many perfumes.

Which perfume have you most recently added to your collection?

selfridges mothers day Diptyque RoseFor anyone that is as last minute as me with their Mother’s Day gifts I thought I would share a quick look at some of the bits Selfridges which are perfect for any Mums that love beauty. It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday so you have just a couple of days left to pick up all your pressies.

My first pick from the lot has to be the Charlotte Tilbury creams, I just love the brand and these are a really lovely treat. I’ve tried the original Magic Cream which was beautiful and I’m expecting the same from the Eye Rescue and Night Cream. You could splash out on the Magic Cream Duo or pick the one item which your mum would appreciate most.

I think perfumes and candles are also always a great option for any female although it can be tricky to choose the perfect scent for someone else. Aerin is brand which I’m still exploring but their fragrances are real stand out products, they look really luxurious and elegant, plus theres a nice range so you can find one that your mother will love. Mediterranean honeysuckle is exclusive to Selfridges but pretty amazing!

I’m also really loving rose at the moment and the Diptyque range doesn’t disappoint! It works great for any age and I must admit that I am super excited to burn this candle! The Rose Roll On also comes in the most beautiful packaging, is the perfect handbag size and is very affordable as far as luxury perfumes go.

As my mum isn’t huge into beauty I often opt for body and skin products as everyone needs these and it’s always nice to make an everyday task such as creaming your body that little bit more lavish. Estée Lauder’s Revitalising Supreme Body Creme is the perfect pre-spring pick me up, it’s deeply nourishing and adds the most beautiful radiance to the body. However for my mother, top of her list is always a great hand cream, especially the Clarins Super Restorative Hand Cream which is the perfect anti0ageing, intensive hand cream!

For makeup loving mothers I don’t think you can beat a good lip colour such as the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestros which are grown up matte lip lacquers that provide rich, intense colour. Alternatively everyone needs a good mascara and Estee Lauder Sumptuous Knockout is the ideal one for anyone looking to add lift and definition to their lashes.

My final beauty recommendation is one I have been trying over the last week myself and it’s the Suqqu Musculate Massage & Mask Cream. It’s currently my favourite relaxation, pamper item. It’s a rich and highly moisturising cream which can really be used to massage the skin in order to promote blood circulation, hydrate and add the perfect glow to the skin.

Have you bought your Mother’s Day Gift yet? Did you pick up any beauty bits?

PS. I’m getting a facial tomorrow a Radical Skincare Facial tomorrow (which would make the perfect Mother’s Day Gift too!) so join me on Snapchat to follow my day: alittleobsessed

jo malone fragrance jo malone perfume jo malone perfume combining jo maone creamWhen it comes to beauty, fragrance is probably the thing I know the least about. I know what I like and what I don’t but not really why and I am absolutely useless at describing scents.

I was told a while ago that Jo Malone fragrances are designed to be layered, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them all individually but instead that you can makeup something perfect for you by mixing two perfumes together. Since I know very little about fragrance I never gave this a go, I was interested in the concept but too scared to try it myself.

I recently popped into Jo Malone to find out a little more and for my own Fragrance Combining Consolation. Naturally we went through to find the sort of scents that I like but we also spoke about my favourite colour and my happy place. I mentioned that I really loved the new Fragrance Intense Orris and Sandal wood which she recommended I could layer with either Mimosa and Cardamom or Blackberry and Bay. I’m actually not a huge fan of Mimosa & Cardamom but combined with Orris and Sandalwood is the most perfect scent for me.

I ended up picking my favourite combination as Blackberry & Bay with Wood Sage & Sea Salt. The other interesting thing is that you can layer with their Body Cremes too and not just with the actual colognes, I ended up getting Wood Sage & Sea Salt as a Body Creme (although the Cologne is top of my wishlist) which I plan to wear under my Blackberry & Bay Cologne but apparently Mimosa & Cardamom also works well!

I feel like I’ve just added so many new fragrances to my collection just by learning with ones work well layered together, it’s amazing that mixing two fragrances can take an evening fragrance and turn it into a funner day one. I also just discovered the Jo Malone France Combining Tool on their website so I can’t wait to discover which other of my fragrances I can wear together!

I’d highly recommend popping into a Jo Malone store for a Fragrance Combining Consultation which are available in most stores, particularly if you’re after a signature scent, are getting married or just love fragrance!

Have you tried layering fragrance? Which fragrances do you like to layer?

I’ve been struggling a little with blog post ideas this week so I thought that I would share with you some of the products I have been loving over the last couple of days. I love these sort of posts as they’re a nice way to talk about a range of products that I’ve really been loving.

Last week I met with two of the Murad girls, I think sometimes I need to feel someones love and passion for a brand before I too can get into it, especially with a brand that’s more science than luxury. I’ve used items from Murad before but their AHA/BHA Cleanser scared me a little as it sounds quite intense but after hearing the girls talk about it I literally got home removed all my makeup and used this. It’s a little different to most other cleansers I love, it’s an exfoliating cleanser with Jojoba beads, Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid so it’s definitely not one to be used to remove eye makeup and instead more of a second cleanse. Since my first use I have been using this every 2/3 days and really fallen it love, it really helps get rid of that dull look my skin gets every so often and leaves it smoother and healthier looking. I’ve also tried using this as a quick face mask and left it on for a couple of minutes, it’s not really what it’s recommended for but works beautifully at waking up the skin. I would say that it may not work for people with sensitive skin but I’ve fallen in love with it quite quickly.

I had a beautiful pale pink gel polish applied about ten days ago but last night I really had the urge to paint them a darker more autumnal colour. I’ve never painted over gels but it worked surprisingly well! I didn’t want the normal burgundy wine autumn shade and therefore was automatically drawn to this Soigne shade in Mysterieuse. I love khaki nails as an alternative to more traditional autumn shades and this one in particular is just perfect as it has a hint of grey.

The Sisley So Intense Eyeliner is one of the most expensive eyeliners I own and I know that it isn’t for anyone but it’s by far the best liner I have tried in years. This is one of the first time Sisley has made liners but they’ve done it so well! It’s a super intense black felt tip, with a sturdy nip and packaging too. Although I think there isn’t often a huge difference between liners there are some awful ones and some great ones with this being the best of the best. It’s easy to apply and lasts all day without any movement which is exactly what I want. If you’re a Tom Ford Eyeliner lover I would highly recommend swapping over to this one as it really outshines the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen.

Another recent discover is black toothpaste, Curaprox makes Black is White toothpaste designed to whiten the teeth which is black in colour. Admittedly it is very strange to brush your teeth with a black paste and almost looks like coal but I’ve actually been really enjoying it. It came with a great toothbrush which has it’s own little lid which I love and I’ve actually found my teeth to be a little whiter, not anything drastic but I haven’t been using it for very long but I will update in a few weeks time.

My current favourite fragrance which was also in my September favourites  is the Jimmy Choo Illicit Fragrance, I’m awful at describing scents but I think it’s a floral/sweet scent which I find really comforting for Autumn/Winter. If you’re looking for a new fragrance than I would recommend checking this one out, I’ve hardly been wearing anything else!

I always find men the hardest to buy for and apart from ties, socks and the occasional watch, I really struggle to choose something. I’ve had a look around and since this is a beauty blog I thought I would share my favourite beauty items that any father would love wether the father of your children or your father.

A family favourite and a gift I have given to almost every man I know is the The Body Shop Maca Root Shaving Cream and Brush. It’s a great stable in any mans life; the brush is great quality, the shaving cream allows for a great shave (so I’ve heard) and the Maca Root range also comes with a face wash. If you’re looking for a fragrance on a budget than The Body White Musk is a great one to look into and I was surprised by just how great it smells with hints of lavender, geranium, musk and sandalwood.

If you are looking for a light summer fragrance that’s still a real man’s man scent than I would go for the John Varvatos Artisan Acqua although it has lots of floral and citrus scents it still remains quite traditionally masculine. Another great one is the Ermenegildo Zegna Uomo which I think is aimed at a slightly older more traditional man but which won’t break the bank as it’s only £18.50 currently in Boots.

If you are looking for skincare then the No7 Men Protect & Perfect Serum especially any man which is beginning to worry about ageing and hydrating. More of an investment but a great one if he’s a gym goer and is looking to really clean his skin to keep blemishes at bay is Clinique For Men Charcoal Wash and Cleansing Brush, it’s one of my favourite brushes, not too harsh but can really change your skin.

If you’re looking for the perfect fragrance for any young man then I would start with Hugo Boss Bottled Intense, Michael Kors For Men or Lacoste L.12.12 Jaune all three are perfect for any stylist, modern father.

The Thierry Mugler’s A* MEN gift set is perfect if you are looking for a little more than just a fragrance as it also comes with a hair & body shampoo but is a really interesting, unusual but beautiful fragrance.

I’ve got my father TABAC After Shave lotion as he doesn’t typically love beauty items but this is so classic and old school that  I think he’ll love it.
