I’ve been back for NYC a while but haven’t posted too much from it as I’m still a little unsure what/how I want to post about. That said I did take some photos of my beauty products which I want to share and keep an eye out for what’s in my long haul travel case next week. We’re skipping makeup and just concentrating on toiletries as I don’t typically do my makeup in the bathroom but do let me know if that’s something you’d like to see too.

We’ll start with the essential although not terribly exciting- deodorant…

I took two with me, as I hadn’t tried the Bioderma Sensibio Freshness before, and because I typically like to have both a spray and a roll on. I like a roll on as my go-to morning deodorant and the Bioderma Sensibio Freshness Deodorant is great, it’s designed for sensitive skin therefore isn’t too scented which I like. I’ve been using it for a few months and it’s great but if you are particularly sweaty I think it might be best to opt for something different. I bought the Mitchum Aero Advance Deodorant at the airport as it’s a great one for the boyfriend and I to share, as naturally he had forgotten his. Mitchum is a brand I really trust and I find the mini size great to throw in my handbag in case I want to freshen up whilst exploring the city.

Another must is sun cream, I decided recently to start wearing suncream daily (more on that soon) and for New York I opted for Ultrasun SPF 30 Family as I had a small tube, perfect to travel with.  This particular suncream isn’t specifically designed for the face but it is for sensitive skin so I didn’t have any issues with it on my face, especially as I ensure I cleanse properly in the evening. For me it was light weight enough for under my makeup and I had no issues even on days we were out all day. Ultrasun is a brand I trust when it comes to skincare and I might even pick up some more for the summer!

For facial moisturisers I took quite a few as my skin does get a little dehydrated when traveling but I must admit I was missing a oil and serum in this routine. I took with me the Elemis Pro Collagen Cream which is my go-to everyday face cream as it’s hydrating but not too heavy. I took Weleda Skin Food as I like it for very dry patches both on the face and body, and also to highlight my face/limbs. Finally, I grabbed Embryolisse Lait-Creme, it’s a great moisturiser to have as I can use it even if my skin is feeling little more sensitive- although I didn’t end up really needing it.

As my cleanser I took the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm– I love a balm cleanser, especially when I’m traveling and this one is one of my favourites! I find balms do a great job of removing all of my makeup without stripping my skin and I find a balm to be a great luxurious-feeling way to remove my makeup and get ready for bed, especially after a long day. I also have a small version of the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Balm which I kept in the shower for my morning cleanse. Oskia is one of my favourite skincare brands but I don’t fully understand the hype around this cleanser, it’s nice but I simply prefer a balm. I did also take a mini Bioderma Micellar water which was great for removing any makeup from my under eyes but which I kept in my makeup bag for makeup removal on the go.

I always like to travel with a few face masks and treatments such as the Oskia Citylife Detox Mask which is great for getting some life back into my skin after days on the subway and in the big smoke. I love how easy this is to travel with, although it’s a little tricky to mix and I also had some other sachet sheet masks beside my bed, perfect to help hydrate my skin. My go-to over night product was the REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial, as my skin is quite dry I love the exfoliating nature of this. As it uses AHAs I wake up with a more radiant skin, which is exactly what I look for!

My other overnight product to add a glow would be the James Read Gradual Tan drops. Not everyone loves fake tan on their face but I personally think a few drops in with my moisturiser can make a huge difference and making me feel instantly more confident.

Honestly, I don’t always cream my body (although I am making a special effort and getting much better) but I took the Byredo Body Lotion away with me, I think I brought it home from a hotel a while back but it smells great!

In terms of fragrance I did take the Glossier fragrance but ended up only reaching for Maison Margiela Replica Whispers in Library. This arrived days before I went away which is probably part of the reason I reached for it but I love this fragrance. It’s a unisex fragrance which my boyfriend could wear if he wanted and it just looks so chic. It’s quite easy to wear, quite light with notes of cedar and vanilla which I love.

Final few items in my shower…

Sol De Janeiro Shower Gel, honestly this just smells amazing and makes me happy. In terms of shampoo, conditioner and hair mask I opted for Philip Kingly, a brand I love and trust! The Elasticizer is one of my favourite masks as I colour my hair and my hair is quite fine, it adds life back into my hair without weighing it down. Plus, these three products come in a little Jet Set set which is perfect for a few days away.

What are your must have products when you’re away?

I’ll admit that I’m not really a huge fan of monthly beauty boxes: they get a little repetitive and not that exciting, but I was so impressed when the new Spring Tili Beauty Box by QVC came in! Since it is only seasonal, it seems to be a little more substantial with some great QVC brands, which I don’t regularly see in other beauty boxes.

Available online at QVCUK.com, this beauty box includes some of my favourite cult brands in very generous travel sizes. For £20 you get a carefully curated edit of skincare, makeup, nails, haircare, bath & body products which makes this box a must-have if you will be travelling at all this spring/summer.

Let’s delve deeper into the box….

Exclusive to QVC, there is the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer 75ml in Coconut Breeze: a pre-shampoo treatment that super conditions hair whilst adding shine & bounce. This Coconut Breeze edition is an exotic coconut scent which really remind me of holiday and which I’ll be packing on my next beach adventure.

There are two makeup offerings: the Mally Shadow Stick in Smoky Quartz and Dolly 10 Lip Velvet in Material Girl. Both brands are available on QVC but I actually haven’t ever tried anything from Dolly 10 before. I always get excited to try new brands and am really impressed by the Lip Velvet; I love the nudey colour, it has a mousse-like texture, which leaves the lips matte but still comfortable and not too harsh. I’ve tried a few things from Mally before and always been very impressed, this Shadow Stick is no different and it has already made it into my makeup bag.

If skincare is more your thing then this box won’t disappoint as there are some must-have cult classics. There is a 15ml Pixi Glow Tonic; an exfoliating toner that helps perfect skin tone and texture as well as the This Works In Transit Camera Close Up – one of my favourite multi-purpose products: it’s a mask, moisturizer and primer all-in-one. Finally for skincare, there is a small Decleor Smoothing Oil Serum in Mandarin – which is a super serum that draws on Mandarin Essential Oil’s abilities to protect cells from Radical Damage; cleanses and detoxifies – as well as the Elemis Gentle Foaming Facial Wash to remove pollutants and impurities from the skin whilst maintaining the skins natural oils.

Everyone always needs bath and shower gels and there are two offerings in this box: a 50ml Molton Brown one and an Australian Body Care Tea Tree Oil Skin Wash.

To add a final splash of colour to your spring, there is the much-loved Essie Mint Candy Apple, the perfect crème mint shade.

Overall, I think this is an impressive box for any beauty junkie and I wasn’t disappointed in a single product – which has gotten particularly rare in beauty boxes. Since receiving this box, I have found myself reaching for its contents on a daily basis.

Yesterday morning, after getting back from Portugal the night before, I rushed off to Selfridges to check out the Build Your Own Birchbox Pop Up Shop which has been created to celebrate Birchbox’s 5th Birthday!

I had great fun building my own Birchbox and there are some great products and brands to choose from including Elemis, Benefit, Decleor, Nuxe, This Works and more. You get to choose five samples plus a beauty treat where I chose the This Works Sleep Plus Pillow Spray. From the makeup section I picked the Stila Convertible Colour, which I didn’t even give a second thought to and the Wild About Beauty Gloss– a few of the other products I have already had samples of in a previous box but there were some good options. For skincare I was tempted by the Embryolisse Lait-Creme but as I haven’t tried the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream I went for that instead. I rarely get excited by body care but I loved the sound of the Whish CC Body Cream and in haircare I choose the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.

Each box costs £15 which although is a little more than the usual box I think s justified by the fact that you get to pick exactly what you would like inside the box. The pop up runs until the 28th September 2015 in the Selfridges Beauty Workshop but for anyone that can’t get to London they will be releasing a exclusive Limited Edition Selfridges Birchbox online on the 10th September with seven deluxe samples!

I’m really not very fussy about Shampoo and Conditioner, if it works I’ll use it. For me it’s all about the styling tools and products you use after especially when it come to party hair.

One of my beauty unsung heroes has to be my GHD blow dryer, I feel that I don’t give it enough credit- it’s amazing! I use it every single day, it dried my hair quickly and is great for adding volume if I have time to round brush my hair. I always use a volumising spray in my hair, I do like mousses but they require much more work. The one I’ve been using daily is the Philip Kingsley Maximizer which gives great volume but isn’t sticky or too heavy.

Depending on the style I’m going for I obviously will use a different tools; for volume I go for Cloud 9 The O, for straight hair you can never go wrong with a GHD and for curls I’m currently using the Babyliss Boutique Soft Waver. I need something that will heat up quick and give me the style I want with minimal effort quickly.

As I have fine hair I love a good dry shampoo to add some texture, I swear by Batiste but recently I have been trying the Swell Dry Shampoo which isn’t in the traditional can. Instead it’s in a little pump bottle which disperses the product really finely and allows you to really concentrate the product on the roots. For more texture I have been using the Charles Worthington Texturising Spray and would say it’s just as good as the high end ones I have tried and an absolute must if you are going for volumised or messy hair.

To hold it all together and to get it lasting all night than a hair spray is essential. I always have lots of hairsprays on the go but I have been reaching for Urban Fudge Hair Spray recently, it’s quite light weight whilst smelling amazing and offering great hold.

What are you Party Hair Essentials?

With Christmas parties starting, I thought I would share my picks of the Beauty Christmas Crackers which are about this year as there are some fabulous ones…
Space Nk- £48 for six I’m going to kick this off with my favourite set of crackers. They work out at £8 a cracker which is fairly inexpensive in comparison to most crackers around but the best thing is that you get a great selection of high-end brands such as Caudalie, Oribe and Laura Mercier. I think these are the ones I’ll have round my Christmas table.

No7- £14 for six These are the best value set at under £2.50 each- but you can even get them on 3 for 2!! Inside there is a mixture of nail polishes and skincare all perfect for winter.

Champneys £10 for four Another great set if you are on a budget. Admittedly they don’t look quite as luxurious as the rest but they are a great option if your guest are more in to bath and body care rather than makeup and skincare.

Cowshed Christmas Crackers £10 The singular £10 crackers are best as a treat to yourself or as a gift as they are quite expensive however with this Cowshed one you get two products inside; a lip balm and a hand cream.

Philip Kingsley- £10 If hair care is more your things than this Philip Kingsley one is the one for you. It comes with a shampoo, conditioner and the cult favourite Elasticizer perfect for achieving party ready hair.

This Works – £10 The party season is the time of the year when most of us get the least amounts of sleep which is why I love that this cracker has the This Works Deep Sleep Body Therapy inside which is one of my current loves.

Clarins- £39 for six It’s no secret that Clarins is one of my all time favourite brands so I’d love to discover this makeup or skincare inside my cracker.

Harvey Nicols £50 for six This one comes a close second to the Space Nk one as it houses brands such as Laura Mercier, Deborah Lippmann and Prada, with a great mix of nail polish, perfume, skincare and makeup.

Lancome- £54 for six There isn’t a single product in this set that I would be disappointed with. It is filled with what I consider to be essentials; mascara, lipstick, serum and more

Jo Malone- £32 The most luxurious cracker of all. It has three (sample sized) Jo Malone products, need I say more….

Which is your favourite cracker?
