When it comes to summer dressing I love a dress which is versatile as it isn’t warm for long in the UK and therefore I need dresses which I can dress down and dress up. I also need them to not be too trendy so I can wear them year after year and this year whilst on holiday I discovered my new favourite.
I found this Warehouse dress browsing the dress section on the House of Fraser website and although I wasn’t initially sure I have recently found it to be very useful. I’ll admit that these sandals don’t go amazingly with this dress but on a casual day, on holiday, I don’t think it really matters. It can be dressed up a little with a pair of heels and I particularly love the slit at the from of the dress makes the dress a little bit more fun but isn’t too revealing.
I have also found it to be the perfect city dress, it has been the one I reach for on hot days in London as it’s not too revealing and I’m comfortable getting on the tube in it but it’s so light weight that I don’t get too warm.
I expect this is a dress I’ll keep coming back to for a few summers.
If you follow me on Snapchat (alittleobsessed) then you might have seen that I spent Saturday at British Summer Time Festival with Sonic Chic, listening to Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine whilst eating far too much junk food and sheltering from occasional rain storms.
It was such a great time and I thought I would share some of my festival essentials.
As I wore shorts some pre-festival leg prep was essential, I used a BIC disposable razor which I have been loving as they are super affordable and the Vita Liberata Body Blur, which is a game changer! Although I love going bare-legged my legs are less than perfect and this really helps them, it offers a little bit of a tan and coverage whilst still looking really natural, it’s basically a foundation for your legs. I was worried about wearing it all day and had no issues whatsoever, even when I spilt a drink down my legs and was caught in a downpour. I would avoid wearing it with a white dress as I think it might transfer a little but other than it is amazing! I also think I’ll be taking this on holiday with me as it’s great for the evening but washes off when I want to sit by the pool and catch a real tan.
In terms of makeup, I think that a festival is the perfect excuse to have some fun. There are so many festival gems around but I love the Lottie ones as they actually have some dainty very wearable ones. I ran out of time but temporary tattoos are also so much fun and there are so many incredible designs about now. However personally I still think glitter is really fun and Topshop probably does the most impressive, inexpensive one! I have another festival coming up next week and I don’t think I’ll be able to resist!
Onto handbag essentials…
Hand sanitizer, doesn’t need explaining, it’s essential! Tissue, in case the loos are all out or if like me you’re a little clumsy and spill your drink. Even in London sun cream is essential as it’s so important to stay safe in the sun, especially if you’re going to be outside all day! If it’s a hot day then a facial mist such as Avene Eau Thermale spray can be really refreshing and Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo is a great way to freshen your hair up throughout the day without getting the sort of buildup many other dry shampoos leave you with. I also like to pack a toothbrush with me and if you’re camping it is absolutely essential, I love the Sonic Chic one as it not only looks cute but it’s electric, making it the perfect toothbrush for festivals and traveling, I’ll be taking mine to Portugal at the end of the month.
Have you got any festival plans this summer? What are your festival essentials?
With autumn starting in a couple of weeks time I though I would quickly recap some of my non-beauty favourites. I totally missed Augusts beauty favourites on my YouTube channel but that just means I’ll have extra items to talk about next month so don’t forget to keep an eye out for that.
In terms of clothing I love summer but I have a fairly large summer wardrobe which only gets worn a few months a year so I don’t end up finding too many favourites. The said I fell in love with my Daniel Black Leather Gladiator Sandals, I wore them with everything, they were really comfortable and great quality. Even after wearing them religiously all summer they’re still in great condition and I now have my eye on some Daniel over the knee boots for the colder months.
My go-to bag for everything was this bright Ralph Lauren Bag from My Bag. I always take a bright coloured handbag away with me and this one was perfect, it added a pop of colour to my usually boring outfits but was a great shape and size for a day sightseeing or even for a day at the beach and I’m a little disappointed I didn’t pick up the smaller version too.
I took a fair few pairs of sunglasses away with me but ended up only wearing my Quay ones, I have two pair; one from Topshop and the other from ASOS but love them both equally. They’re affordable, good quality and really fun, I haven’t had a pair of sunglasses that I like this much for years and I’m so tempted to buy a few more pairs.
I’ve also been trying out Esthechoc which is suppose to be a daily portion of chocolate designed to increase the level of antioxidants in the skin, I’m not too sure if it really does this but I think day size portions of chocolates is a great idea and it really stops me eating too much chocolate like I usually would if I were to start an entire bar.
I haven’t been watching much on TV but have recently finished Modern Family and could not recommend it enough, it’s a great series for almost any age and has won numerous comedy awards. I also started to re-watch Hart of Dixie which is potentially my favourite ever series but I don’t think gets enough recognition. I’m think about starting Pretty Little Liars once I have finished but I would love some recommendations too.
Now I’m ready for autumn candles and spiced lattes….
Morange, Peach Blosson, Vegas Volt, Pure Zen, Lady Danger and Brave
Packing lipstick is probably the hardest decision I have to make when packing, if I could take a small suitcase of lipsticks, liners and gloss I probably would. Even though that isn’t possible I ended up with six MAC lipsticks this summer and a couple from other brands too.
I’ve mentioned before that I am currently in love with MAC lipsticks so although I only originally packed four I ended up buying two more at the airport. I ended up with three everyday colours and three brighter real summer shades.
First lets talk nude everyday colours…
I packed Brave and Pure Zen but ended up getting Peach Blossom at the airport as it came highly recommended on Instagram. MAC Brave is a great everyday colour all year round with a beautiful semi-matte finish. It’s a mauve shade which everyone seems to be going crazy for but which I think works really well with most of my eye looks and can really be toned down (made less Kylie Jenner) with a good nude gloss. Pure Zen is a MAC shade which almost confuses me a little, I love it but I think it really doesn’t work on me by itself. Instead I use it to soften lip liners or tone down lipsticks but it’s actually a colour I probably couldn’t live without. Peach Blossom is one of my newest MAC lipsticks and although it didn’t blow me away it’s a fabulous everyday peach nude shade which has been living in my handbag for weeks now.
The bold shade I ended up reaching for the most was my airport purchase Morange, it really isn’t the easiest colour too as it’s a really bright neon orange but it’s just perfect for holiday with a tan. I’m not sure I’ll be reaching for this again until next summer but it’s the perfect airport MAC lipstick purchase. I also took Lady Danger as my summer time red but didn’t end up wearing Vegas Volt as I forgot my orange liner and felt that Morange offered a more intense orange. Vegas Volt is a great more wearable orange which can really be intensified with an orange liner.
Now it’s time to start thinking about autumn/winter lipstick shades, leave your recommendations in the comments please….
I thought I would share another outfit from Paris, once again all Topshop as I done a fairly large haul just before I left and took everything with me.
I love every item in this outfit although I did have a bit of a nightmare with this top as I managed to get deodorant stains all over it one morning and only realised once I was out exploring, meaning I was forced to wear my jacket all day in the heat. I’m in love with cami’s at the moment and although the Topshop ones aren’t the cheapest they are affordable and nice layered fabric, better quality than some of my cheaper ones. I’m really tempted to go back and pick up a few other colours as I think it’s a great summer stable. I do struggle a little with this sort of camisole’s and my bra situation which is why I picked up another Strapless Wonderbra from House of Fraser, I think it’s a total must have item, it’s the best strapless bra I’ve ever tried as it’s comfortable, offers support and gives a great shape too.
Onto my shorts, if you saw these in my haul I mentioned that I bought them in the tall section in Topshop making them a little bit longer which I love as I carry most my weight on my thighs so short shorts aren’t really my style. These are super cute as you can pair them with so many different items and I find the crochet detailing particularly cute.
Initially I didn’t think I would even like these sandals let alone love them but I do. I love them so much that I am considering buying a second identical pair just in case. I love the colour as it’s very flattering on tanned skin, they’re comfortable and I love the look of them. I’m trying not to wear them everyday in order to save them for my holiday but it’s proving quite tricky!
I’m currently doing a little online shopping for the next few months whilst all the sales are on, if you’re doing the same then check out VoucherBinUK for all sort of discount codes including some great Health & Beauty ones, I’m so tempted to put in a Philosophy order! I also picked up a few bits in stores today, have you been sale shopping yet?
