I’ll admit I feel a little silly writing this post since the weather in London is dreadful.
May? More like November, it’s been raining non-stop for days and there’s no sign of it stopping.
But hopefully, some of you have a nice holiday planned somewhere hot and if not hopefully summer will arrive at some point over the next few months.
Either way, this dress is just too perfect not to share. I found it whilst building my Spain wardrobe for my trip last week (more on that soon) at New Look. I love New Look at the moment, it’s affordable and just generally killing it.
This dress covers almost ever trend, which sounds like overkill but it isn’t.
Gingham- tick, a pop of red- tick, embroidery-tick, Bardot neckline- tick. It’s got it all, for just £24,99
I particularly love that it’s a black and white gingham as the usual navy doesn’t suit me. The shape isn’t quite perfect for a curvy body like mine but it really isn’t too bad. It can be dressed down with some converse or dressed up with some wedges for dinner like I did here.
Also, I bloody love these Wedges, and once it finally stops raining I won’t be taking them off. They’re incredibly comfy, the colour is perfect and I love the lace up detail- from JustFab.
Please excuse the photo quality, we were aiming for magic hour lighting but left it too late and it was starting to get a little too dark. And the tan lines. Please ignore those too. Rookie mistake.
When it comes to summer dressing I love a dress which is versatile as it isn’t warm for long in the UK and therefore I need dresses which I can dress down and dress up. I also need them to not be too trendy so I can wear them year after year and this year whilst on holiday I discovered my new favourite.
I found this Warehouse dress browsing the dress section on the House of Fraser website and although I wasn’t initially sure I have recently found it to be very useful. I’ll admit that these sandals don’t go amazingly with this dress but on a casual day, on holiday, I don’t think it really matters. It can be dressed up a little with a pair of heels and I particularly love the slit at the from of the dress makes the dress a little bit more fun but isn’t too revealing.
I have also found it to be the perfect city dress, it has been the one I reach for on hot days in London as it’s not too revealing and I’m comfortable getting on the tube in it but it’s so light weight that I don’t get too warm.
I expect this is a dress I’ll keep coming back to for a few summers.
The new Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Summer Glow Multi-cheek palette has been in my everyday routine for a few weeks now and I’ve fallen so in love with it that I feel it needs it’s own blog post.
There have been quite a few blush palettes pop up this season but I love that this one has a highlighter. blush and bronzer/contour powder.
The blush takes pride position in the middle of the palette and is a medium, warm, rosy pink with very fine golden sheen. The coverage isn’t too opaque which is why I have been loving it, it adds a great rosy glow without being over the top. The contour/bronzer shade is also a similar sheerer product which looks really natural, it’s supposed to be a contour shade but I think it’s a little orange for a contour and works really well as a bronzer, adding a beautiful natural sheen to the skin. Sticking with the semi-sheer theme is the highlighter, a warm soft being with a beautiful luminous finish, this isn’t for you super-strobing-queens but more for those looking for a more natural alternative.
I’ve been reaching for it so much as it really adds that low-from-within look, natural but pretty. No need for extreme blending or even spending too much time, just perfectly bronzed, blushed and highlighted cheeks effortlessly. Particularly good for fairer skins but since the bronzer is quite light I would avoid if you’re a little darker.
I’m not really saying this palette is a must have or life-changing but it is beautiful and if you’re looking to add a little more glow to your summer makeup without adding too much time, this is the palette I would go for!
PS. Whilst searching for a link I realised this product has sold out online (good sign) but should still be available in store, it’s worth having a good look for one.
Barry M Surfboard Nail Polish
I’d been struggling to find the perfect nail polish for this not so summery summer we’re currently experiencing in London. Barry M Surfboard is the perfect soft pink with a hint of lilac and really inoffensive, plus it lasts surprisingly long!
Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara
I’m not usually a huge fan of waterproof mascara but as it’s summer I think it’s good to always have a tube to hand, in case of water flights, beach trips or hayfever. I love the original Better Than Sex Mascara and have been loving this one over the last month. I don’t think I would ever switch full time over to the waterproof one as it is so much harder to remove but it held up really well with my extreme hayfever yesterday, the rest of my makeup didn’t do so well. I’ve made a whole video dedicated to this mascara so check it out here.
Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate
A few months back I had a skin consultation in Kiehl’s Regent St, where they recommend lots of products to help improve my dehydrated skin. One of the recommended products was this Kiehl’s oil which helps correct the visible appearance of Skin Fatigue. I’ve been using it on days that I feel my skin needs some extra TLC and have found it to really help make my skin look more glowy and healthy!
L’Oreal Cushion Foundation & Cushion Bronzer
I’ve been raving about this to anyone that will listen as I just think it’s the perfect, lightweight, buildable, summer product. The foundation is nice a glowy, just how I like it but can easily be powdered down for a more matte look. The bronzer adds a really natural looking glow/tan to the skin which I just love and can be really intensified with a powder bronzer.
Collection Deluxe Lipsticks
I always say that drugstore nude lipsticks are just as good as high-end ones and these really prove it. They remind me a little of the MAC Lustre finish lipsticks, they’re relatively sheer but buildable with an almost gloss finish. I love this sort of finish when the rest of my skin is quite matte and I think in nude colours it can look really beautiful (I would go for matte bold colours). The three that caught my eye are Baby Doll, Chicago and Liberty as they’re all beautiful, everyday nudes. I would even say Chicago is a great dupe for MAC Patisserie which is one of my favourite ever lipsticks!
Would love to hear which five products you’ve been loving recently in the comments.
Morange, Peach Blosson, Vegas Volt, Pure Zen, Lady Danger and Brave
Packing lipstick is probably the hardest decision I have to make when packing, if I could take a small suitcase of lipsticks, liners and gloss I probably would. Even though that isn’t possible I ended up with six MAC lipsticks this summer and a couple from other brands too.
I’ve mentioned before that I am currently in love with MAC lipsticks so although I only originally packed four I ended up buying two more at the airport. I ended up with three everyday colours and three brighter real summer shades.
First lets talk nude everyday colours…
I packed Brave and Pure Zen but ended up getting Peach Blossom at the airport as it came highly recommended on Instagram. MAC Brave is a great everyday colour all year round with a beautiful semi-matte finish. It’s a mauve shade which everyone seems to be going crazy for but which I think works really well with most of my eye looks and can really be toned down (made less Kylie Jenner) with a good nude gloss. Pure Zen is a MAC shade which almost confuses me a little, I love it but I think it really doesn’t work on me by itself. Instead I use it to soften lip liners or tone down lipsticks but it’s actually a colour I probably couldn’t live without. Peach Blossom is one of my newest MAC lipsticks and although it didn’t blow me away it’s a fabulous everyday peach nude shade which has been living in my handbag for weeks now.
The bold shade I ended up reaching for the most was my airport purchase Morange, it really isn’t the easiest colour too as it’s a really bright neon orange but it’s just perfect for holiday with a tan. I’m not sure I’ll be reaching for this again until next summer but it’s the perfect airport MAC lipstick purchase. I also took Lady Danger as my summer time red but didn’t end up wearing Vegas Volt as I forgot my orange liner and felt that Morange offered a more intense orange. Vegas Volt is a great more wearable orange which can really be intensified with an orange liner.
Now it’s time to start thinking about autumn/winter lipstick shades, leave your recommendations in the comments please….
