drugstore favesSo drugstore week has come to a close, I do have one more video to upload but it requires me recording a voice over and I have a cold so I’m going to try to postpone to a time where I have a slightly less nasally voice.

I really enjoyed forcing myself back into the drugstore and have discovered so many great products in doing so. A few years back whilst I was still a student this blog was focused almost fully on drugstore makeup but as my blog grew and as I became an adult (and got a job) I seemed to move on to higher end products which often feel more luxurious but there are some real treasures to be found in Boots and Superdrugs.

My top new discoveries of this week have been the Maybelline Brow Satin which I have used every day since discovering it and the Sleek Matte Me Lipstick in Birthday Suit.

When filming my new video (out later this video) I had a good rummage through my collection and made some great re-discoveries. The L’Oreal Glam Bronze is the perfect winter bronzer, adding just the perfect amount of warmth to the face. I also used the Seventeen Eyes On Me palette in Birthday Suit and turns out it has some truly beautiful, creamy colours (I didn’t try the creams shadows though).

The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Me Lip Colors are out in March and I’m so glad that you guys seem to be as excited as I am (Swatches here).

I’ve embedded all my #drugstoreweek videos below incase you haven’t had a chance to watch them all yet but don’t forget to check out My Guide to the UK Drugstore.¬†

I’m thinking of making Drugstore week a regular thing, maybe every 3 months or so- let me know what you think in the comments. I really want to share my favourite affordable brushes, as well as dive into drugstore skincare.

What drugstore posts would you like to see next?

beauty clear out

New year, new me.

I’m completely joking. New year, same old me- with a slightly more organised and down-sized makeup collection.

I’m not the most organised person ever and makeup is my vice so my makeup collection does sometime get a little out of hand, which is why at the start of every year I like to have a clear out. This years one was quite a good one and I think I got rid of a lot of products I didn’t need and which I will be finding new homes for.

I filmed some of it for today’s video along with my tips and how I clear out my collection, I hope it’s helpful wether you have a large stack of drawers or a small makeup bag.

Clearing out your makeup collection has to be my favourite rainy Sunday in January activity!

Now that I’ve cleared out my makeup collection I’m tackling my emails, computer and phone (then maybe my wardrobe)

It’s no secret that I have fallen in love with MAC lipsticks now more than ever and my collection is ever growing. I recently picked up seven new shades ranging from a bright red to darkest plums and nudes. I picked up some from Debenhams and others from Fragrance Direct which is a great place to look for a slightly discounted price.

I’d love to know what your favourite MAC shade is in the comment as I have bought most of the ones I was originally after and need to add some more to the wish list.

Just before the Christmas madness starts and all I post about is the festive season I thought I would share what new products I received this month. Theres been quite a lot of products arriving, largely for Christmas but I think I chose a nice edit for this video, with a variety of highend and more affordable bits.

Last week I touched on my trip to Spain in a blog post (here) but since my vlog is up too I thought it was a great time to talk a little more in depth. I went with SantaVerde an Aloe Vera based, natural skincare brand which recently celebrated 25 years and is based in the south of Spain (although the business/brain side is based in Germany).

The truth is that I don’t know a lot about organic or natural skincare and, if anything, it has always scared me a little so it was a great opportunity to learn. We arrived on the plane in Malaga and headed to Estepona where the Santaverde finca is based and run by Kurt and his wife Sabine.

They welcomed us into their beautiful house and shared both food and their stories with us. They originally bought the Estepona fina as a holiday home but later learnt about the power of aloe from a Texan neighbour who gave Sabine some to try on her own skin. After falling in love with the effect the aloe had and with their entrepreneur background the couple thought it would be a great business opportunity.

They spent a long time researching, experimenting, planting and harvesting the raw aloe vera and although their initial plan was to sell it on to cosmetic giants they realised that the big worldwide brands were misleading and using barely any aloe in their aloe products, often opting for aloe powder, knowing that it wasn’t as affective.

Instead of helping the leading companies mislead their customers they decided they we going to both grow the aloe and manufacture the products on their finca as a 100% natural, organic and honest brand.

The finca is now filled with aloe vera plants and a glass building used to harvest and process the aloe. Whilst we were there we got to witness the harvest and I even got to pick my own leaf. We then got to help the lovely girls with the washing and peeling, which looked far easier than it actual was. It gets prepared to be sent to Germany where the products are made and the companys business side is run from.

Unlike most aloe products the final results are pure, it doesn’t have bulking agents or powdered aloe and is designed to really work rather than to mislead people. All the products are unisex and don’t catered to a certain skin type. Santaverde is certified organic, cruelty free and vegan!

The finca is compleltey opened to the public and to it’s competitors (so if you’re ever in Estepona- it’s a great place to go) really showing that they don’t have anything to hide or a fancy recipe,  I learnt so much on the short trip and has really made me think about were my cosmetics and skincare items come from, what in them and how good they are for the enviroment,

Santaverde is available online and in Harvey Nichols
