Four Easy Beauty Tips

Stop using products up
This one might be quite hard but it seems silly to use something up even though it isn’t working for you. Pass it on to a friend with a different skin type/colouring or put it to one side incase your skin/colouring changes with the seasons but you could be going more hard than good by using it up (or you could be looking really silly.)

Hold your brush further down the handle
I use to hold my makeup brushes very close to the brush hair which almost covers what you are doing but I find particularly when blending foundation and eyeshadow it’s quite nice to hold the brush about 1/3 of the way up so you can really see what you are doing but the brush is still able to rest on your hand. You still have control but you can see what you are doing and you aren’t putting too much pressure onto your skin.

Stop using magnifying mirror
I’ve never actually owned a magnifying mirror because I simply look shocking in a one and the truth is that no one sees you like that. If you are using one I think it’s far too easy to become obsessed with your skin texture, over pluck your eyebrows and just generally not feel that great. Step away from the magnifying mirror and move onto a normal one where your imperfections aren’t magnified by 1000x.

Practice in the evening
My personal favourite and one my mother will never understand. I believe that the best time to practice your makeup is at night time just before removing your makeup. If might seem like a waste of makeup but the truth is that it’s better to use a little bit of makeup unnecessarily than to try a cat eye just before leaving the house for an important party which you are forced to attend with 1.5 eyeliner flicks because you simply couldn’t get the other one right. I also practice eyeshadow, contouring and new lip colours just before bed.

I’d love to hear your tips in the comments.

The brush tip is a really good idea, I'd never thought of that before so I'll be trying that! And I always play around with my make up and practice in the evenings, especially my liquid eyeliner – I need all the practice I can get with that!x

I've got to be better at tip #1 – I have such a hard time letting go of products that I think should work for me, especially products that everyone raves about. I guess I just think that if I practice more or change my technique it will somehow become an amazing product, which has never happened in all the years I've been wearing makeup.

I've also really got to get better at #1!
I'm terrible at trying to use up foundations are have never and will never work for me.
    Great tips 🙂

Definitely agree with practising in the evening! I always take pictures after if it goes well so it feels like it's 'worth it'. That said I don't do it much any more, It would be great to get back into trying new looks though!

I always used to practice putting on my makeup at night too and my sister never understood why, haha!
I think this is one of the best tips…it let's you try out new looks and decide wether you like them or not before it's too late to change your mind.

Magnifying mirrors are the devil, seriously. I avoid them unless I'm plucking my brows for that exact reason.

Great tips! I have really learned a lot here. I also hate using magnifying glasses. Its better to use ordinary mirrors instead.

I'm studying my makeup artistry degree right now, and where you hold the brush is a big deal.
The further down you hold it, the more pressure you're applying and the more dense the product application will be.
When blending or anything like that, the higher you hold the brush, the better. It disperses the product evenly and seamlessly.

The other tips were great, too.
I'll definitely be practising my makeup at night now.

I love to practice random smokey eyes or experiment with a bold lip in the evenings, it gives me a chance to figure out what I like or dislike or what works for me while I'm not pressed for time in the morning.

These tips are really helpful – definitely the mirror one. They make you look so awful, it's bad enough I can't take selfies with my DSLR because it's so much harsher than a smart phone camera xxx
