My Tips for Healthy Skin this Winter

WWI am super excited to be working with Weight Watchers as their beauty and fashion expert for their My #WomanKind project. If you haven’t seen their video then click here as it’s a must see and really got me thinking about how mean we can often be to ourselves. It’s heartbreaking to think we call ourselves names that we wouldn’t dream of calling other people and concentrate on being nice to others but forget to be nice to ourselves. Since developing a better relationship with ourselves needs to start both inside and out, today I am sharing my skincare tips for anyone who is struggling with the winter weather, I’m suffering with the winter blues myself.

1.Watch what you eat and drink
A little boring I know, but what you eat and drink can really affect your skin. Avoid too much sugar, alcohol and salt but make sure you are drinking lots of water. Swap a cup of coffee for a cup of lemon water to really help your skin.

2) Avoid overly hot water
Since it is cold it’s very tempting to stand under a hot shower for longer than is necessary but this really adds to dehydrating the skin so it’s best to avoid it. I’m not suggesting you have cold showers but warm is better than boiling hot.

3) Avoid over cleansing
In summer when skin can often be very oily double cleansing is great but in winter I like to take a less is more approach and use an oil and balm cleanser as these are often less stripping and more hydrating on the skin. You still want to make sure you are removing all your makeup but you want to do this without also removing all the moisture from the skin. My personal favourite cleanser is the Omorovicza Thermal cleansing balm.

4) Swap to hydrating face masks
Most people use clay face masks in the hope that they will help decongest/oily the skin but in winter when skin is already dehydrated it’s much better to swap over to a more hydrating one such as the Clarins Hydra Quench Mask.

5) Add oils and Serums
More than at any other time of the year serums and oils can really help the skin, my favourite is the Clarins Blue Orchid Oil or the Oskia Get up & Glow Serum.

6) Don’t forget the moisturiser
Just because you are adding oils and serum it doesn’t mean you can skip moisturiser, instead layer it on top to really inject moisture and life back into your skin

7) Lip Balm
Since your lips don’t have oil glands you should really be taking care of them all year round. Avoid licking your lips and instead use a lip balm like By Terry Baume De Rose or Nuxe Reve De Miel.

    Yes to hydrating face masks! I try to use one once a week.
