Staycation at St Martins Lane Hotel

Earlier this month Michael and I had a mini staycation in London.

I almost felt silly packing to stay less than 30 minutes from my house but sometimes a stay at a lovely hotel is all you need to help shift the January blues.

We stayed at the St Martins Lane hotel, which is a sister hotel to the Mondrian (which I’ve been lucky enough to stay at a few times, read Jess’ post here) and the Sanderson (which is probably top of my London hotel Wishlist). I’ve visited the hotel a few times before for events but never noticed just how amazing the location is! It’s just off Covent Garden/Trafalgar Square and I think probably the best located hotel in London.

Decor wise it’s perfect, stylist and minimalistic with a touch of fun, they even have leopard print carpet! Ultimate carpet goals! The rooms are light and spacious, perfect if you’re after a few Instagram/blog photos like I was. Also, the lobby (which I stupidly didn’t get photos of) is really beautiful, I love the giant chess pieces and the gold teeth seats.

We made the most of being so central and went for dinner at Flat Iron, I’ve been meaning to go for ages but I know there’s always a long wait (we waited 2 hours) but during our wait we went back to the hotel, watched Friends on Netflix (obvs!) and then went for a little stroll down to the South Bank as it’s just stones throw from the hotel too.

If you’re a steak fan and are ever in London then I’d recommend Flat Iron if you have a little time to wait (but they take your number and text you so you can go off and do a little shopping or have a drink whilst you wait for your table.) They do great £10 steak, which is basically unheard of in London but for me, more importantly, the fries are great too!

As I haven’t been too well, we headed back to the hotel for an early night and to watch some more Friends. It’s all I’ve wanted to do all month, January is just the perfect month to hibernate and stay warm and cosy.

In the morning, I had planned to head to the gym as you can use The Gym Box next door when staying at the hotel but the extra hour in the incredibly comfy bed was too tempting. Seriously, what sort of magic makes hotel beds so amazing?!

Once I was ready for the day I made the most of the amazing mirror, it’s like there was a whole room dedicated to mirror selfies! I need one of these at home- the blogger dream!

We ordered room service and of course took a few photos, shout out to Michael for taking all my photos for me and as a consequence having a slightly cold breakfast.

I’m not sure how we fitted it in but after an amazing breakfast we still headed downstairs for a bottomless brunch as the Bellini’s were calling! We were joined by a group of other bloggers and their boyfriends and since I was having so much fun I totally forgot to actually photograph what we were eating- which is always a good sign! Brunch at Asia de Cuba did not disappoint, it’s asian inspired Cuban food, something I’ve never had and I love trying new things. There were lots of sharing dishes, we both loved our mains and I drank far too many Bellini’s for 12PM but I had such a lovely time!

There is also a really cute speakeasy (with the awesome hand on the door) which I had a peak inside of but which we didn’t really visit, I’ll definitely be popping back there soon!

Huge thanks to St Martins Lane for having me, I had such a lovely time! If you’re looking to book a room they start just over £200 and are great if you’re looking for an amazing hotel in the heart of London.

Really hope you enjoyed this post and I’ll be sharing a few more hotels throughout the year!

PS- I’m off to Barcelona next month so if you have any recommendations please leave them in the comments!
